I have coffee makers, computer parts, monitors, routers, touchscreen photo monitor, printers. I want to make something cool or useful. Any ideas on what to make, how to make it or links?

dont be a horder, recycle the stuff already

^^^This. You'll end up with shit all over the house like me. I have a steam espresso maker I've been looking at for a month. Try again to fix it? There's some cool parts in there I could use "some day". I'm not as bad as I used to be, but I have way too much junk. If it works, or can be fixed, fix it, and donate it. If it's irrevocably broken, toss it.

Send it to me and I'll fix it.

Generally, if something can be fixed with cheap parts, I can do so.

But I'm the same about hoarding worthless broken crap. To save space, usually I just pull the guts out and save electromechanical parts (motors, solenoids, ect). Plus any board that has lots of capacitors in good condition. And transformers. (inverter boards in general).

...I hoard.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR EXPRESS-O MACHINE?

Also OP send me your broken touchscreen. 😡

Do you have any spare optical drives? One word: laser...array...okay two words. Five. Six. Dammit.

Perhaps we could do a chainletter type thing, except we build the ATOT lulzbot9000 or something.

It's a crappy Mr Coffee machine. You don't want it. If it were a good one, I'd put more effort in it. What I /think/ the problem is, is a simple blockage somewhere. Either that, or a valve has gone bad. I can get water to flow when I have the outlet screen removed, but when I put it together with coffee, I get a feeble trickle, and less than a full pot. The frothing wand still works, and that's another reason I have it. It takes a lot of counter space for the occasional frothy milk though...

I want to give a manual frother a try, but I need to get to a decent cook shop first. Something like that would go a long way towards getting me to release the maker.

You mean you haven't even taken it apart? Like, with a screwdriver and/or hatchet?

No. I have a good idea of what it looks like, and most of it will be inaccessible. If it's a scale blockage it'll be inside an aluminum tank, and I can't do anything aside from chemicals. I tried vinegar, and it improved a bit, so maybe I'll try that again. If it's a valve, that would likely be a death sentence. A special ordered new valve would probably be a substantial fraction of a $30 machine, if I could even find one.

i used to do that with computers and such. i filled my basement once with junk then asked myself WTF am i doing?

it's not worth it anymore. recycle that shit or just flat out give it away.

Desolder all the components and organize them in a tackle box type container. I only recently started doing that, I still have a whole UPS board I need to desolder.

Never know when you may need a capacitor, resistor, etc for something and it's not like it takes much space if organized well.

For stuff like computers where components are too small to get, if they still work just give them away, otherwise recycle.

Not for any room but if you have a "geek" room you can hang mother boards, monitors etc wall as art. I have a bunch on my office room and looks kinda kewl...

That can take a while. But yeah, it's cool when you can fix a broken TV or something without even having to go to Radioshack.

Doesn't seem worthwhile except for certain components. I can buy resistors for < 1 cent.
