what to bring on a road trip for preparedness

i have a 96 gmc sierra ext cab truck, i plan on driving about 2500 miles, staying in hotels, seeing sites.
so far the things i have thought of would be all my auto tools, i have 2 boxes of sockets and stuff. ive changed my intake manifold gaskets before so its not a bad kit.
i will carry a pocket knife like this, i figured incase i somehow ended up in a lake i might need it to cut seat belts. pic my laptop and coffee maker. ( my truck has 110 volts) .
what else should i do or bring?

nice list, i have all of those except for the flesh light, wont need because ill be with a woman, and whats a jerry can?

my truck is GMC Sierra 1500 4WD
8 cyl, 5.7 L, Automatic (4 sp), 13 city 17 highway, so its one of the worst.
i do get way better mileage now though, i removed the 9 pnd fan from the rotating mass of the engine, k&N filter, maf screen removal, full syn oil, changed timing for better fuel economy at highway speeds, i get like 25 mpg now without a load.
 
-Package of wet-wipes (clean hands after using nasty rest stop bathroom, clean grime off hands if you have to change tire, clean hands if you get fast food and have been picking your nose 😉, clean up stuff if you spill something or barf, TP in an emergency...)
-Deet
-Sunscreen
-Road flares
-Couple gallons of potable water
-Box of assorted snacks (granola bars/power bars/etc)
-Immodium, tums, advil/tylenol
-A towel
-Small pillow
-Couple trash bags, couple gallon ziplock bags
-Digital camera or at least a disposable camera (in case of auto accident)
-Pen & paper (in case of accident)
 
So, you are in an older truck. What happens if you decide to follow a little dirt road up to see a nice hiking trail that you read about and your truck breaks? You have not said WHERE you are going. Although it is summer, in some parts of the country it can get quite cold at night, if you go high up enough on a mountain. A few years ago, I went sledding in Idaho in May. Also, if your truck breaks down in the middle of the desert, you will want some shelter to keep the sun off of you.

Get some space blankets at a minimum, a full-size tarp is preferred. Also, carry at least a gallon or so of drinking water in a sturdy container. Another high-priority item is a decent first-aid kit. Also on my list: cheap lighter, waterproof matches, leatherman or equivalent, non-folding knife with 4" blade and with tang going all the way through the handle, flashlight (preferably two, with one being an LED model), duct tape, 100' of paracord. Having a compass ($3.00 baseplate model from Wal-Mart) would not be a bad idea, either. This is in addition to your sockets/wrenches.

All of the stuff that I just listed (except for the knives) should run you less than $40.

Get a shotgun or cheap rifle then. That way you wont end up like those poor saps in bad horror movies when the tire goes flat.
