I'm going to college fair type thing tomorrow night, wondering if there are certain things I should ask colleges. Would also be interested in hearing anything else relating to a Junior picking a college. Thanks for any advice

Hmm, well, most of the academic stuff you can research on your own via the net. It sounds messed up, but ask them questions about male/female ratio, the existance or lack of clubs in the area, social activities available on campus, etc... Only about a quarter of college is academics, the rest is finding yourself, meeting people, and getting a taste of what real life is and how to live in moderation. The best school in the world won't work for you if you are miserable the whole time you are there because the social life is a drag!

any more stuff? Hehe I'm to lazy to look up everything, rather they have it in a nice little book for me to read to fall asleep... I'm taking the SATs in Dec, deciding which colleges should get my scores.

I don't really have an idea, just wondering what I shoud ask them if anything. Can't decide if I want to major in business or something with computers or something different so I guess I don't know what I'm looking for.

Have you tried visiting colleges? Tours suck because the guides are all b.s. and random wierd facts. If you have a chance to walk around seen if you can talk to some ppl, they'll give a good unbiased non-money-snatching opinion ;).

look for the social life - it's pretty important. I mean, academics-wise, try to get into the school that's right for you. Don't go to a school just for social life, but when you've narrowed it down to the 5 choices that are in about the same academic level, then you should compare social life, diversity, clubs, frats, etc. Also look at housing options around campus and what majors they offer. That's one thing I forgot to do~ UCI doesn't offer a business major :(

Did you go to the thing at the Bob Carpenter center? Just got back from it, got some pamphlets, information, etc. Sent a few requests for information cards from a few colleges that sounded interesting.

Yep, so very disappointing... Only filled out the card for UD, grabbed some others that I will fill out sometime. One college wanted 1300 SATs get in so I guess I gotta get started with some SAT stuff now.

Try to figure out how far from home you WANT to be. I know many students that got homesick and couldn't visit old friends often enough so they dropped out and moved back just for that reason. Also make sure you like the campus. Try to figure out what you want to do and select a more general degree to start with...it will make it easier to figure out what you want to specialize in if you don't jump into a highly specialized field. (what you want is bound to change when you get a feel for whatever major you start) And basically ask them how many credit hours it takes to graduate. Then you can figure out if it will take you 5 or 6 years to graduate. The old days of 4 year college plans just aren't happening that often anymore.
