What things do you miss about the internet? (i.e. - What is no longer around)

I miss Outpost.com giving free overnight shipping on pretty much EVERY PRODUCT they sold, including a Midnight EST cutoff for orders. Heck, I even miss the year after when they downgraded it to 2nd day air on nearly every product.

I'll never forget when around 11:30pm one night I ordered a $30 logitech mouse from Outpost, only to be amazed to find it sitting on my doorstep when I walked outside at 9:30am.

Ahh, those were the days.

What about you?

Peer to peer. Not the song downloading crap, but the idea that every computer on the internet could be a server if the owner wanted it to be. The ISP model with separate paid webhosting has all but destroyed the peer to peer beauty of the early internet.

No 'leet speek' or crap like "LOL WTF STFU DIAF", no people miss spelling words because they think it's cool, getting an honest answer, no people telling you to kill yourself, finding what you needed without having to scan for a virus.

Romp.com

They used to have awesome content:

I would watch all kinds of BootyCall episodes....funny stuff

They also had that 'Romp Girl of the Month'........awesome swimsuit videos featuring yet unknowns (back then) like Marisa Miller, Jolene Blalock, etc.

I remember when you could actually get decent cash rewards like $20 amazon.com gift certificates for filling internet surveys.

Nowadays, most surveys only offer a "chance" (in hell!) of winning something like a $500 prize. :(

All of that, too! Hell... I can remember a time where buycomp.com (before they renamed it to buy.com) had better hardware prices than everyone else online. They were the Newegg or ZZF of their era!

I remember the old gamesages site before it became ign. My friends and I got a free site on homestead (that's another one) to try and make our own video game site...those under construction gifs were up there forever...

lol.....web archives.

I went back and read some reviews that I did long ago. Was reading my review of a Ti4600 where I was talking about the fast 300MHz Core/600MHz Memory....lol. Wasn't that long ago but still.

I ran into an old WD drive that I used for testing and it still had a bunch of benchmarks and crap on it. Ahhh...the old days.

I don't really miss anything particular but rather miss the simpler BS-free times -i.e. not being constantly tracked by multiple entities, advertisements, flash, &c.
