I'm surprised Darwin hasn't had his way with you yet. Not wearing a helmet while biking is rather stupid...

so is walking with out a helmet. more people die from tripping and hitting their head than biking and hitting their head.

I used to piss in the toilet and then flush before I finished. I tried to basically race the water and pee completely before it got completely flushed. It's not really dangerous but I thought I'd share.

Edit: I didn't always win.

I rode my bike for miles every day without ever wearing a helmet (bike helmets hadn't been invented yet)
I ate all over the neighborhood sometimes at peoples houses I'd just met.
I swam and fished in the Mississippi in the middle of town.
I discovered fertilizer burned really niftily and blew the roof off a friends garage.
I rode a two wheel scooter down the second highest hill in the city sans helmet which dumped out into one of the city's busiest streets.
I built tree forts in vacant lots
I rode the bus downtown at age 8 by myself to see where the bus went. I walked around for a while and rode the bus back.
I played baseball, tag, red rover, Combat and Cowboys and Indians all over the neighborhood from age 6 and never came home till supper time.
I hung out in peanut bars and tried my first beer at age 8.
I was an average kid.
The world has changed a great deal since then but, not for the better.

My friend and I were playing with matches and burning neat patterns of fertilizer on the floor of the garage. We weren't being very careful (8 year olds) and the fire back tracked to the 50# bag of fertilizer stuck between the wall studs.

We were a tad alarmed and ran out of the garage. A few seconds later, there was a tremendous WOOF! sound and the roof raised in one piece about a foot over the walls before falling back and sending up a mushroom cloud of smoke and dirt.

No one was hurt except for the beating we got later and the car was not there since it was the middle of the day. It did cure us of playing with matches though. I discovered other ways of blowing things up later but, thats another story. :)

exploring city sewers.

trying to fashion a rocket sled out of a gas can filled with gasoline taped to a sled. sadly, this little adventure was discovered and halted just before the fun could begin :(

My brother, sister, and some friends swam/played in water after floods and messed around with debris after hurricanes hit. I recall a rather nasty, long, rusty nail going through my sister's friend's foot after hurricane Andrew hit. I mean completely through, and it was anchored by a piece of wood. You know those really fucking big nails they use on roofs? Yeah, one of those.

You can imagine the wait time for that.

After hurricane Andrew hit, a couple friends and I went and dug in the piles of debris also. We found and old chandelier and used it as a grappling hook.

It worked surprisingly well, but it WAS only holding up a couple of 8-10 y/os.

When I lived in alaska, after a big snow storm, we would take a toboggan (or sometimes a plastic trashcan lid) up the side of a large hill (seems wrong to call it a small mountain, but we were about 35-40 ft up and the hill kept going) that was right against the side of a road, and go sliding down. If you aimed right, you would jump the ditch, hit the road, slide across and into the parking lot of the little convenience store across the street from the hill. If not, well, you ate the ditch.

Man, sometimes I miss being a kid.

trying to think if i ever did anything exceptionally dangerous or whatnot.... lol

Where the fuck do you live? Compton?

Edit: For my own kids, if I ever decide to have any, probably play with gasoline and matches. We were all young and stupid at some point.

umm i was prob in my 20s before i ever put on a helmet to ride a bike, and thats only because i took up Mtn biking pretty seriously

when i was a kid i biked miles and miles every day as i lived in the boonies and my best friend lived about a mile away, never wore a helmet, never wore one when i rode my gokart around either

I still do not wear a helmet after many many wipe outs on my bike. /shrug

Personal preference.

Never wore a helmet on my bike, except when I raced BMX.

Rode my motorcycle some without a helmet....but usually wore it.

We left our doors unlocked all the time. My dad used to leave his car unlocked with the keys in it anywhere he stopped.

We walked all over the place....a pretty long way from home. Never a problem.

Rode our bikes all over town.

Not my kids.

What self respecting 6 year old didn't have a pocket knife that they could flip off their thumb held up to the different parts of their face and get the knife to stick in the ground?

We used to play jarts and throw lit firecrackers at each other.

When I was seven or eight, friends would ride bikes to the shopping center a couple of miles away.

When I was ten, I'd sometimes take off in the morning in the canoe alone on a lake and not come back for hours.

When I was fifteen, I'd take the 13' whaler out into the middle of the chesapeake bay alone sometimes.

Trick-or-treat was on the 31st and started after dark. When some house was found to be nasty, we took care of it.

Walked to elementary and high school.

I used to experiment with all kinds of fireworks and firecrackers, mixing them together to see what would happen. My favorite was mixing a screamer with a really powerfully explosive one. It's amazing none of us got hurt in all that time.

Me and my friends used to walk and ride our bikes across a busy 4 lane road. It was to get to the best ice cream place in town, so at least we had a legit excuse. :p
