When I was 5 and in kindergarten I used to walk home alone about 1/2 mile. I walked home alone because kindergarten was only a half day so my sister who was 8 could not walk with me.

When I was 10 I used to ride the bus from one side of the city to the other side of the city to see my friend who had just moved. This would take a little over a hour.

I grew up in the 80s.

Surf the Internet without an ad aware/virus protection.

I guess it can be done now if you know what you are doing but when you are a little kid there is no way you know all the tricks they can pull.

My kids will be doing all the dangerous shit I used to do and if they survive it, they will be better people for it. I will never ever put a fucking helmet on my kid so he can ride a bike. They won't get a cell phone until they can pay for it themselves, and they will be walking everywhere. Life is not safe and I have no intention of breeding perpetual fear into my kids.

We used to light firecrackers and then toss it in a bin filled with a couple of rounds of ammo. Man, we were dumb back then.

basically have free reign to roam about the neighborhood, to other kids houses, and all of the woods in our surrounding area. i would like to think that i will live in a town/area where my daughter will be able to do these things with little worry but i fear things just arent the same anymore....

trying to think if i ever did anything exceptionally dangerous or whatnot.... lol

Three wheelers, lawn darts, the ramp at the bottom of grandpa's eighth mile long 10 degree sloped driveway...

My brother, sister, and some friends swam/played in water after floods and messed around with debris after hurricanes hit. I recall a rather nasty, long, rusty nail going through my sister's friend's foot after hurricane Andrew hit. I mean completely through, and it was anchored by a piece of wood. You know those really fucking big nails they use on roofs? Yeah, one of those.

You can imagine the wait time for that.

I was pretty sheltered as a child so I cannot say much... however, should I ever have children, I will (try to) give them more freedom in some ways than I had.

I played in the woods a lot. I don't know if I will let my kids (if I decide to have any) do the same. There may not be any woods for them to play in.

If we have children, I have every intention of restoring trick-or-treating to the proper tradition it should be. On Halloween, at night. Neighbors and I have already discussed this.

- Watching the house, alone, when I was only 8.
- Walking/or riding a bike 1/2 to 1 mile-or-so to/from early grade school (kindergarten/1st grade, ...without a helmet).
- Playing with friends, in the woods, for hours and hours without my mom wondering where I am, or worrying.

I had one of those chemistry sets. Back in the day they were real chemicals, not this fake crap today. Looking back it's a miracle I didn't call/damage myself or others when I randomly mixed that shit together to see what would happen.

im not sure how cell phones, bike helmets, and walking have anything to do with perpetual fear.

let me guess, you're one of those "LETS NOT PUSSIFY AMERICA" people? im not sure how protecting one of the most vital organs of your body can be called "breeding perpetual fear". its just common sense, protect your head in case you fall - especially when teaching young kids how to bike.

I used to take the train from the city I lived in to the city my friends live in when I was around 10 (was about a 20 min train ride).

I'd stay out until the wee hours of the morning when I was 14 with friends doing things no 14 year old should be doing.

I used to see rated R movies on a regular basis when I was under 10. I can recall my Dad dropping me off when I was 12 to see one of the Nightmare on Elm Streets.

Lawn Darts.

BB guns.

Toy guns that looked (more) like real guns.

Took 4 wheelers (ATV's) out into the woods without any adult supervision.

Drove a motorcycle full time at the age of 14 until I got my first car at 16. It was a Suzuki GN250. If I was going down a really long hill I *might* be able to get it up to 90mph.

Drove other people's cars at the age of 15 for the detail service I used to do at my Dad's car wash he owned at the time. I'd ride my motorcycle to where the person worked, leave my bike there, get their keys and drive it back to the car wash to detail it, then I'd drive it back when done. I told people every time that was was only 15 but no one ever cared. I learned how to drive a stick shift really quick by doing this.

Took my parents boat out onto the lake we lived on to explore around all the time. This wasn't a small lake either, it crossed state lines even. My brother and I would take the boat out to this one island and camp on it on a regular basis, we'd have bond fires, shoot bottles with our BB guns, set off fireworks. All sorts of fun stuff. Now that I think back to it, I have no idea what my parents would have done if they *had* to get to us since we had the only boat they owned.

I guess my parents were very trusting of us, I'm thankful for it though, I had some good times :p

I also was probably corrupted at an earlier age than most also since I had a 3 year older brother that didn't filter me from his discovers :D Alcohol, pron, cussing, etc..

I'm surprised Darwin hasn't had his way with you yet. Not wearing a helmet while biking is rather stupid...

Unprotected sex.

Not really anything, maybe riding three wheelers since they're now illegal.
