My computer runs 24/7, and when I got up this morning to come down I woke up my monitor and saw a black boot screen. At the top it said Verifying DMI Pool Data..., and above that I could see the bottom of a chart, so I believe it was at the second boot screen, after the one where it shows CPU speed, memory amount, etc. Anyway, below that, it said something about Nvidia Boot agent, and some weird messages with numbers and letters. At the bottom of the screen it said something about an improper boot disk, please enter the system disk and press enter, all in caps. I rebooted and it came back to the desktop just fine.

What do you think happened?

Possible the HD is failing? Is S.M.A.R.T. enabled in the BIOS, and if so, have you gotten any SMART messages?

I don't have time to check right now, leaving for a work in a few, I'm not sure if SMART is enabled or not. If I was getting SMART error messages, where and when would I be receiving them? When rebooting?

Make sure to back up all your data asap My hard drive did that and after i rebooted next night same thing and never "woke" up again I lost a lot of good music....

That's usually where you'll see them....right after the drives are detected when all the other error messages are displayed (ie, no keyboard).

Well, I'm not sure if SMART is enabled or not, but if it is, I definitely didn't get any SMART messages. But I'm wondering if someone else rebooted my comptuer and then that happened upon reboot, or if it somehow happened itself. Either way, when I rebooted this morning, it worked no problem. I'm sure the HDD is fine, though. It's been operating normally, and it's only a year old or so. A Seagate. Probably still under warranty.

To sum it up, it was after the chart during bootup, had some goofy error messages, and said something about an invalid system disk and inserting another one at the bottom in caps.

Anyone else? Possibly just a quirk? Or mobo or HDD? Maybe it's due to my error-causing memory? It does create an error or two in Memtest, I will be RMAing it before my next upgrade.
