How does the scanning work on PC? Can you move the scanning like a mouse cursor? If so that sounds a lot less annoying than the console version.

On the 360, the scanner area moves SOOOO slowly, even when not scanning. It takes forever.

Yep, you just swipe the cursor around with the mouse.

What's funny is that they keep saying this is an improvement over the previous games "tedious" mako missions.

I can only conclude they're snorting gas fumes.

There were just as many (if not more) complaints about the mako. At least with the scanning it's over relatively quickly. If the planet was less than "Rich", there's no need to even start scanning. Stop scanning a planet once it gets to "Moderate".

The first time I tried playing ME1 I uninstalled the game the first time I drove the mako. It kept sending me off the bridge at that one colony, and I got pissed and stopped playing. About a year later I got bored and decided to play through it in spite of my hatred for the Mako, and I was quite happy I did. Great game that was the precursor to ME2 which is an amazing game.

At least in Oblivion you could quick-pick it, of course, that runs the risk of breaking the pick.
Yeah, that shit was annoying.

I think there was an unbreakable lock-pick somewhere in that game, quite handy to deal with this annoyance.

Man, you would probably break the pad in half if you saw how shit it is on an Xbox... the cursor moves so slow, even upgraded, it's not funny. I found a guide where they list which planets have which mineral the most and I use it when I need something for my research. So it's a lot faster to gather the required resources. I was using maps for ME1 for the Mako exploration otherwise I'd go crazy!

I agree, it took a lot of time and did not even require any skill. I also was really disappointed when I upgraded the scanner and it did not seem to make that much difference.

The scanner upgrade is useless. All it does is increase the mouse sensitivity slightly. You can do that in the game's ini files instead.

The reason for so many planets to explore is to add to the overall size of the game. All you're really intended to do is scan the planets rich in resource as you pass through systems and you end up with just enough for every upgrade.

it's a lot more tolerable with the scanner upgrade, but yes, sometiems getting Ezo was a bitch and took a lot of time when i needed it.

It is better than driving that stupid fucking apc thing. I mean seriously, why did it drive FORWARD AT AN ANGLE when you pressed the key that in any other game on the planet would be a "turn but don't fucking move" key?

I actually enjoyed the resource scanning.

It was a lot easier when I decided to look up planets with abundant sources of Ezo. IIRC you only need 30k (or was it 50k?) of Ezo, so if you hit up a couple of the really abundant planets, you'll have almost enough. One of the systems near the Armada had like three planets with huge sources of Ezo, it was awesome.

I just used a trainer, I couldn't stand that crap.

This. To me the probing made the game completely unrealistic. Here I am on this brand new badass ship being backed by the big ass bad ass corporation and I have to mine for minerals and shit? FUCK THAT! I just used the trainer for infinite resources...not because its cheating, but goddamn, this shit should be provided to the person thats saving the fucking galaxy.

Seriously, I mean they can afford to bring somebody back to life and build him the most advanced ship in the galaxy and they cant get some else to mine that shit.
