i just did a DSLreports speed test. 458/220 was the result. i am on a roadrunner cable connection. my friend has the same connection/plan/etc and he gets 2025/350. what the hell?!?!?!

hahaha. good idea. i could live in their basement.

i just did the cable-modem.net test and got 58. it says a cable modem should be 150!

I just started working on campus and tried out the DSLreport test with this computer. I cannot believe these scores:

8,333/30,000

The upload is insane! (and yes, I did read it correctly. I'd post a pic but I have no website. Those are Bytes, not bits).

Damn that is crazy

I'm about 1000/135 most of the time. (advertised 1500/128) Can't figure out how to get the 1000 any higher

Your download speed : 812935 bps, or 812 kbps.
A 99.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 228898 bps, or 228 kbps.

I'm on the east coast and that was the LA Test at BroadbandReports. I can definitely download faster than 99.2KB/s though. I'm usually able to get 130-150 from a good server. I can get 200 from a really great server.

I'm moving next week and we will have 3Mbps DSL (only like 256 up though) for $40/month there. 😀

must be a gigabit ethernet connection. Cause 100 mbps is only 12,500 kBps

DSLreports is awesome, but should really only be used as general guide (the speedtests anyway).

Your connection might be slow "today." Maybe the switches and routers you bounce thru are slow "right now."

Maybe a combination.

The best way to test your speed is to do a test in the AM and the PM, repeat for a few days and take an average.

Also, make sure you run the Packet Loss test. That's important. Anything higher than 2% indicates a prob. Ideally, you should have 0% loss, but that a pipe dream for most.

Well I work in a lockshop and the computers have to be on their own server otherwise other people on the network could get sensitive data off them.

i only deal with cable since i have no land line...doesn't make much sense to invest 30 bucks a month in a phone line so i can do another 40 for dsl...
