A tried and true tactic

"WASHINGTON ? Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Tuesday he relied on his resigning deputy more than any other aide to decide which U.S. attorneys should be fired last year.

His comments came a less than a day after Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty announced he would resign at the end of the summer ? a decision that people familiar with the plans said was hastened by the controversy over the purge of eight prosecutors.

"You have to remember, at the end of the day, the recommendations reflected the views of the deputy attorney general. He signed off on the names," Gonzales told reporters at a National Press Club forum in Washington. "And he would know better than anyone else, anyone in this room, anyone ? again, the deputy attorney general would know best about the qualifications and the experiences of the United States attorneys community, and he signed off on the names."

Heh, look at who last bailed who was highest on the food chain and blame him :p

Doesn't the attorney general realize that this statement makes him look like an incompetent fool? "They were his recommendations, he signed off on the names, he knew everything that was going on, I don't know anything..." Then why on Earth are you employed? Why didn't we just employ the deputy. Sure, if what you say is true, he seems like a crook and a liar, but at least he can get stuff done. AG doesn't even remember something as major as replacing multiple US attorneys.

Fire this man. Out of a cannon. Into space. It's ok, by the time he breaks the stratosphere, he won't remember how he got there.

Throwing underlings under the bus to beat the rap isn't anything new. Look at Enron, Bush's buddies tried to do the same damn thing, only it ended up catching up to them anyway. Moreso for the government.

I really hope this thing is just the beginning of the problems for Bush and his ilk.

Gonzales said he would fix the problems at the JD so clearly he intends to resign.

The question is and remains---what good is it to get the big rat when there are so many little rats in the justice department. This way Gonzales can look down from is hot seat and see all his little rat helpers picked off one by one---by the time they get around to removing Gonzales, the Justice Department will be sqeeky clean. If we only removed Gonzales, the Justice department would still be totally corrupt. And ready for the next GWB smuck to pick up and carry on the work on Gonzales.
