Doc Rivers was the problem what everyone was saying. He ran Horace Grant and Darrell Armstrong out of town. Grant was a respected vet, and Armstrong was the heart of that team.

armstrong was good, but the heart of the team?

you got to remember your all-star mcgrady

The heart of the team isn't always the best player. Armstrong was not the best player, but he was the emotional sparkplug of the team.

i disagree, the point guard is suppose to lead the team, but he can only do so much. there has to be more than emotion to drive the team. skill and talent often helps. emotion is only a part of the equation. this is true for businesses as well. successful businesses often have talent, skill, and motivation. in that case, being a point guard, one should have some sort of drive or motivation.

Did you ever actually see Darrell Armstrong play?

Well apparently T-Mac disagreed with you when he said last year "There's lots of heart on this team," McGrady said. "It starts with Darrell Armstrong, and those guys believe. When you've got a bunch of guys that will battle with you no matter what, you've just got to respect that."

During the last few years when the Magic were in over-achieving, under-talented team, Armstrong was the undisputed leader and heart of the team.

I'm no Magic fan, but it was pretty obvious who the heart of that team was the past 9 years.

John Gabriel put all of his eggs into the Free Agent basket and came out with one star, one gimp, and no future. Sadly, a good guy like Doc Rivers is paying the price for it.

But as a Piston's fan, all I can say to John Gabriel is

Here, here! Pistons 106, Lakers 96 tonight!:D:beer:

Somebody hit it right on the head.
ZERO perimeter players.

Last year, Tmac drive post up and he can dish it out to Gordon or Garrity for the 3s which is another reason why it makes it tough to double up Tmac.
With both perimeter out, who can shoot the 3s on the team.....NO ONE.

Teams are just feasting them on this problem and Rivers doesn't know how to react.

and the flip side: who can get points in the paint with a collapsed defense that doesn't respect the perimeter...NO ONE.

and who can get rebounds in the paint...NO ONE. (worst rebounding in the league at 45.6%).

Magic are the easiest team to defend.
Tmac is the only guy on the team able to create.
All you have to do is hound Tmac with 2-3 defenders which the zone allows you to do.
Guard Juwan and Drew in the post or around the 15 foot mark cause they don't have range.
Plus, they can't rebound so no 2nd and 3rd chances.

They traded Wallace and Atkins because they wanted to free up cap space to lure Duncan in. Duncan was a free agent that year, and the Magic thought they could get him. It was supposed to be Hill and Duncan or McGrady and Duncan. But from what I've read, Rivers screwed up when he was down in San Antonio talking with Duncan somehow. So they got Hill and McGrady instead. I think it was dumb to give a max contract to a player already hurt.

Hill will retire if he can't fully comeback in 04-05. Then if they can't get a quality player, Tmac will walk. That's when we'll see a really bad Magic team. Juwan Howard will have to do what he did with the Nuggets again, become the go-to-guy.
