I am trying to do this memtest but my floppy is acting up, how do I do it using that lilo thing the readme talked about? I googled it but I must be overlooking something.

Can I safely say I've located the problem? I am gonna try testing each stick in a little bit.

Well I enabled chip kill, and memtest got farther than it did before, before it froze. Also it is of note that I have since I built it, and just did now, been getting single didgit fps in the trolls lair, and mother nature tests, and all the cpu tests, and even 0 fps on the trolls lair cpu test, if I even make it that far before freezing. Could ram also cause that?

Why dont you test the system with 1 stick of memory at a time? When you find the 1 bad stick, leave it out and run the tests again to see if your system crashes.

I wouldnt rule anything out just yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if you are pushing your power supply past its capability.

I remembered seeing a website that helps determine what power supply a system might require so I did a search and found this one. It doesnt have an option for duel opterons so you will have to adjust the wattage for that, and since I don't know what kind of optical drives you have (or anything else that you did not list in your specs) I couldn't come up with a accurate number. From what I would guess you could be within your power supplies wattage range (I could also be wrong about this) but you might be pulling to many watts off of one leg of the power supply.

I think someone already mentioned this, but you might want to disconnect a few things to reduce the load on the power supply and see if that helps.

Well guys, I found out what the problem was. I ran memtest again with both sticks of ram, it found 1024 errors when I stoped it. So I took out the second stick of ram, and re ran memtest. It took about 3 passes before I stopped it and found no errors and didn't freeze during the test once. So I then ran 3dmark 03 2 times without crashing, freezing, or splashing to the desktop. Then I played doom 3 for a half hour without problelms. So the ram was the culprit. Thanks for all your help guys.

Now I have to figure out why I am only scoring 6700 in 3d mark, any tips?
