What the HELL is wrong with CD burning in Win XP?

I'm having problems with basic CD burning in XP. I'm not using the crap built-in burning feature. I have been having lots of problems with Adaptec EZ CD Creator 5.02 and Nero 5. Adaptec almost always tells me my CD's (Imation or CompUSA CD's) are not supported and refuses to burn. Nero will always start burning, but almost always ends with errors before it finishes. Both of these programs worked fine when I had Windows 98SE and now they are crap. I'm thinking maybe the Windows CD burning is interfering with these programs somehow? Anyone know how to get these things to work right?

If you are using Roxio's EZ CD Creator or Nero, the Windows XP burning feature would not have anything to do with those two programs. Perhaps something may be wrong with the drive, and just a coincidence that it happened when you went from Win98 to WinXP?

I have no problems burning Imation blanks with Nero 5.5 under Windows XP. Get the latest version of Nero if you don't have it already - if you do, then you've got a hardware issue somewhere.
