my teacher for character development (game design theory) called in "employed" for 3 weeks. he was asked to help on a game project late in the dev cycle, he took the job and ditched the class for a few weeks. he was already a seasoned dev for a couple huge game companies, brian something. cant remember, was almost 10 years ago. i was surprised the college let him come back, but by the end of the semester he left for a game dev job anyway. sucky, he had really good ideas on char development.

Must have been a valuable guy.

 Not everyone goes to an ivy league school.

lol, i went to a 4th rate school... we had people that took over.

It likely depends on the school itself, the particular class being taught, and the availability of "fill-in" instructors.

For my course, I build in a few "extra" days in the event that I end up canceling class due to illness, the university cancels classes for whatever reason, or we just fall a bit behind. However, given that I'm the only instructor currently in the department who has ever taught this particular course, there isn't anyone who could cover for me beyond proctoring an exam.

Perhaps even with the absences, the instructor is confident he/she can make it through all of the necessary material by the end of the semester or quarter.

Who would take it over? Contrary to your beliefs most classes in most schools do not have ta's.

Yeah, it's a 20 person geology class. It may not be up Northwestern University standards, but I'll learn a crapload more in that class then in a 600 person lecture hall.

Start with learning the difference between 'then' & 'than.'

Talk about a reality check.

Go easy on your teach.

Yeah, I'm more concerned about what could be going on. I suppose it's possible that he could just be lazy/unmotivated. But maybe some serious shit is going on.

I'm at College of DuPage, I think the 2nd largest community college in the US. And yes, I've had fill in teachers before.

It may be a "third rate" college, but it helps a lot of people get their lives back on track, mine included. My first go-around in college netted me a 1.4 GPA. To get back to that school with a fresh GPA I have to transfer in with an associates degree.

This is really odd to me. I go to Rutgers and have never had a fill in, if a teacher can't make it class is cancelled.

Bill, my one suspicion is that today is Monday. Were the other absences on Monday or Friday as well?

Yeah, that's gonna be tough for me. I have a gigantic mental block with those two words :(

Think about it this way..

You use and to compare two things, just as you use than to compare two things.

The sentence is not quite accurate, but it helps you remember.

I thought of a better one in the car.

If comparing two things then than is correct.

hah

We are having some type of 'professionalism' week in one class where we have to dress up professionally and a bunch of other stuff.

My teacher didn't show up this morning for the first day of it.

I had a teacher miss the first 2 weeks of lecture this semester, the department chair lectured instead.
