What the hell is this with kazaa?

I've used kazaa for quite a long time. But just tonight this happened with it. I left it online overnight (dialup connection..) downloading. When I checked it in the morning, there were 20 or 30 IE windows. When I left the comp, there wasn't a single application but Kazaa open. WTF? And I've NEVER seen that happen! There were some ads with half-naked women, some ads with virus alerts such, and one was like something about being watched. Of course I closed them all via closing IE or force-closing IE, and not clicking on anything within the window, but still - I've heard that virii can be transferred by applications such as Kazaa? Is it possible to attain one without actually selecting the download?

Anyway, that was just a little pissoff of the morning...

<< make sure that you havent got infected by a Trojan >>

Do you think I should have to worry? I don't have any antiviral software at the moment... oh well, if I discover that I am infected I'll just wipe again :p

Try http://housecall.antivirus.com/ Free virus scanner that will scan your computer for the latest viruses from the website.

Filesharing progs are potentiall security risks...a skillfull hacker can plant a Trojan and gain unauthorized access to your computer.

Havind said that if you use a uptodate virus prog and a firewall you shouldnt have to worry to much but it.

I'm almost positive that kazaa opens up IE windows to show ads. I know that morpheus does...

I doubt I have anything to worry about, but thanks jf i'll check it out.

I'm on dialup. And I do not frequent illegal sites. So to say that I'm at risk is pretty far fetched. It has happened, and it is always possible... but definitely not likely. I'll get Norton Antivirus and ZoneAlarm some time, if I think I should... I will definitely use it if I get cable, but until then it's not as important.

Yes as long as you are on dialup you don't need to worry to much about it, but then again it depends on how long you stay online also...and you dont necesserly need to be a surfer who frequently visit illegal sites to be hacked.

There are portscanners out there that search for open ports.

All im saying is that its good to be somewhat safe or atleast have the feeling of beeing somewhat safe.

I use filesharing progs too, but i do use a firewall and a up to date virus prog.
