6600 series cards cannot be softmodded.
Only the 6800 series of cards can.
Basically, you use Rivatuner to modify the configuration of your 6800 non ultra (only card in the lineup you can do this on), and it will unlock your 12 pixel pipeline card into a 16 pipe card. It will not turn your card into a 6800GT. You can get very close to one by overclocking the memory. However, you will only have 128MB of video ram as opposed to 256MB of ram if you bought a true 6800GT. After a softmod and memory overclock, the performance between the card and a GT is very close. Most users won't notice a difference.
