You guys would be surprised to find that the people that play Second Life are probably more "normal" than what we see here on ATOT.
Businesses, universities, even those practicing medicine have found benefits in using Second Life.
Granted there are the typical griefers and weirdos, but people are finding different uses for it.
i bet a large number of those businesses and universities were simply sucked in by the hype and fearful of missing web 2.0 "virtual reality" that they jumped into second life to hedge their bets regardless of the actual merit of involvement.
so we have bs where you can visit the corporate headquarters of your favorite company for "entertainment" lol. who the f*ck are they kidding.
basically almost everything second life claims potential to has a superior alternative. conferencing? use web video chat services, you get to see the real face without the bs. networking with friends? facebook is less trouble to use. shopping? i'd rather click around amazon than look at some fake low res 3d representation of some product and walk slowly down some hall when a simple search will do. search for answers? you can search a forum for threads, and any posts with actually valuable information will be preserved for future reading. any valuable content from conversation in second life is limited to the moment. its all rather pointless. its just a game without the fun or purpose. if you move something to second life you basically make it clunky. simple is best sometimes, look at googles main page.
