What the hell is "Internet speed"?

Haha, I asked newegg to send me my password because apparently I forgot it... here's the message you get after submitting the "I'm too dumb to remember my password" request:

The reset password email has now been sent to your email address at Internet speed.

Internet speed? How fast is that? Is it faster or slower if my truck is really big? If a lot of other people need their passwords, will it slow down my personal internets?

lawl.

They're referring to the fact that email is sent and received nearly instantaneously, but it may not show up in your inbox because their mail server is holding it in a queue or your mail server is holding it in queue or there's a software slowdown, or a number of other things

so what was their email speed before they upgraded to internet speed?

USPS speed?

That would be s-mail, not e-mail.

Oops, I read the sentence as "...their mail speed...".

*feeling stupid*

NiteWulf: You know, I thought Newegg's statement was just something stupid, but your explanation actually makes a lot of sense.

So if there are a lot of people downloading 10 movies at a time or >whole books<, it could be slowing down the speed of my personal internets... awesome 😀

Not to get geeky but there is delay that can be a combination of many things.

1) speed of light
2) propogation delay from packets getting switched
3) resources on the mail servers load balancers as well as the mail servers themselves
4) geographic location (see number 1 and 2)

So Internet speed is around 10% of the speed of light.
