Well, if it helps narrow it down, I am NOT an aggie.

<---- student at UCD.

[edit] I don't think it's a thing, just a name. The logo for the school is a kind of horse shoe with a horse in it... it's designed so you can see the letters U, C, and D in it... I don't have a digital cam so I can't show you a pic.

Texas A&M is also called the Aggies if I'm not mistaken. I don't have a clue what it means though.

Haha! According to Dictionary.com

ag·gie2 Pronunciation Key (g)
n. Informal
An agricultural school or college.
A student enrolled at such a school or college.

I'll have the pic of the UCD logo up soon.

UC Davis has athletes? I didn't know that we had any ;)

Actually, I heard we're number one in basketball for second division, true?

<< FYI:

A & M = Agricultural and Mechanical.

Yup. My father was a Texas A&M graduate, so I grew up knowing what an Aggie was. While Websters may think it's any student of agriculture, it's almost only ever used to describe any student of Texas A&M.

You guys never heard of an Aggie before? Man, get out some! :p

Yea, Aggie refers to an agriculture student, Aggie Dip is short for agriculture diploma.

I'm a Gear, BTW. A couple fellow gears kidnapped the aggie mascot (a stuffed sheep) last year and game him some cement shoes. In the subsequent war of pranks, the sheep was slaughtered and left outside in the rain for his stuffing to get nice and soggy before he was returned :D

As a Texas Aggie (Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1996 - WHOOP!), I can say, with reasonable certainty, that an Aggie is an agriculture student.

Gig 'Em Ags! B.T.H.O. t.u.! :D

i just like how we play nm state every once in a while so we get to beat the aggies twice each season, just like the good ol' days (late 1800s early 1900s)

for as much as they talk, you'd think the aggies were on top of the 2nd most lopsided college football rivalry. sheesh. only UNL has a wider margin on kansas. i'm sorta glad we have the sooners to put a challenge in our schedule each year.

and not just texas a&m students are aggies, since at least UCD and nm state are also aggies, and a ton more schools used to be aggies (okie state comes to mind). thats the sort of ignorant statement only a texas aggie could make.

<< B.T.H.O. t.u.! >>

why do you guys insist on beating up on tulane university all the time?

Aggie: Either a marble made out of agate or a glass marble that looks like
it's agate. A glass or imitation aggie is also called an immie.

God, what's wrong with you people? :D

That is not our mascot. UC Davis is the Mustangs. We are called the aggies because the school was founded as an aggie school, but has changed over the last 100 years!

Agreed. Not all Aggies are from Texas A&M... but if you hear the word "Aggie" uttered (especially during football season) dollars to donuts they are referring to the Texas Aggies. UCD and NMSU just do not jump to mind when one mentions the word "Aggie."
