What the hell? I got my credit line extended by $1k without even asking??

WTH?? OK, so I got my first credit card in January, and have used it extensively since then (mostly for online purchases). It was a puny $500 limit, but I don't normally buy a lot in one month anyway. I may have spent about $1800 since January for various items, but I ALWAYS pay my bill at the end of the month. No matter what, when that statement comes, I throw the money from my checking account right over to Capital One. I was looking over my statement for this month online and they bumped me from $500 to $1500.

Maybe they just like me, but I wasn't expecting a $1000 increase in under a year:Q:p

Credit card companies (like CitiBank) review your account and credit usually every 6-12 months, if you've been a good boy they bump it up.

Can you say DUAL LCD Displays?

I knew you could.

oh they do that.. they review every 3 months or so.. and normally its usual to get one increase every year or so..
depending on how you use your card and how you pay back.

I got a Visa back in June with a $500 limit. I logged in to my account last week to find that my limit had been upped by $350 to $850! I guess Discover do their increases on a yearly basis, since I have purchased about $2000 of merchandise since April but I still have the same $1000 limit. :p

The most annoying was when I had a Meier & Frank department store credit card. Started out with a piddly $300 limit when I was 18, every 3 months they'd bump it up $100 so by the time I turned 20 it was around $1,000

Paid it off then closed it.

It's a trick.. if you pay $50 a month or whatever they'll keep raising to the point where if you surf your limit you'll only be paying off the interest and the balance will never go down..

Happens to be a trick that worked for them because I'm a poor college student..

Haha, that trick doesn't work with me ;) If my balance is $324 on July 17th, they have $324 electronically deposited from my account that same day:D I never buy what I can't backup with cash.

Yep, they raised my limit, and I raised my spending accordingly. I was a good boy before then.

???? I don't follow...

Anyway, I mainly use my CC for the ease of use and quick delivery. I used to use Money Orders to buy stuff online and it was a pain in the ass. With my CC, it's simple as 123:)

I've had a CC for about 53 months now. Never missed a payment and depending on the time of the year would go anywhere from paying a little over the minimum to all of it each time. I started at $500 4.5 years ago (this is a Canadian card). Then I requested a raise to $1500, $2500, $3000, then $4000. For some reason they never took the liberty to raise it on their own. The only time I was denied a raise was the second time when I asked for it to be raised from $2500 to $3500, but since it was a student card they could only raise it to $3000 instead...however a couple months back (its still a student card - I keep it cause the interest rate kicks ass) I asked for a raise to $4000 and they said my account was in excellent standing so no problem. I guess I need to apply for a gold card but their rates are like 15%+ and I'm getting 10.9%, which is good considering I am not sure if I'd qualify for a platinum anyway.

I applied yesterday to Captial One down here in the US and I'll know if they give me a card soon. If they don't Fvck em cause I'm low risk.

I always have a $0 balance, b/c whenever I get the statement I pay it then. No interest charges, no nothing. Like I said, if I don't have the money in my account to cover my purchase, I don't buy it.

MBNA is crazy in raising credit card limits. They will raise your limits EVERY six moths by at LEAST $500, even if you have not bought anything during that time!!
