My personal theory is something in that neighborhood with the strong possibility being a grill of some sort. I need pictures though...something tangible to keep in my mind while I search. The problem is I have found nothing anywhere to even compare against. Does anyone know what the internal rear bumper frame looks like? Could it be the internal frame got smacked out during the hit and some how made those marks? Doesn't seem possible since the marks look like scratches. and the two end circles are not entirely complete.

what are the distaces?

how wide are the circles? how far apart are they?

measuring them might help us solve this problem.

The circles appear to be too evenly spaced to be loose pipe. Probably an item that has multiple exposed pipes and was on top of one of those flat moving carts at Home Depot. To leave sharp cuts like that, looks to be thin wall metal tubes instead of plumbing pipe.

Actually I did goto home depot last week come to think of it. I was buying ice salt. This pipe theory seems to be the only solid possible theory that's come out of this. My only problem with it is two things:

1. What kind of truck has a tailgate that low?? Maybe a ricer that's lowered?

2. If it was long pipes in a bed of a truck, they were sticking out, and someone backed into me, the pipes would be the only thing that would hit. Correct?

I've got scuff marks close to a solid foot above the circles and where did the hex and screw washer marks come from??

Man...the alien theory is starting to make more sense.

Maybe these aren't from another bumper, or even from something off the front/back of another car.

They almost look like the profile of a unloading ramp used by delivery trucks. The screw/washer and hex marks are from a hinge assembly, and the circles are from the rollers in the ramp. My theory is that someone extended a ramp directly behind your car and then in the process of unloading their truck, they rocked the truck causing the ramp to press into your bumper.

The circles are a tiny bit over an inch apart, the spacing is perfect, the circles are perfect, and they are almost exactly 1 1/4 inches in Circumference. As far as the delivery truck theory posted.....boy that's thin...and I have absolutely no idea how, when, or where I was parked for any kind of delivery during the time frame that this happened. It's possible of course....but since nothing solid has come across my table yet....I will take it into consideration.

That was gonna be my guess

what ever caused the circles was one peice of something. otherwise there would be less uniformity. either a bumper mounted peice of equipment or someother peice of equipment that was put behind your car and then press into your bumper.

If the circles were joined, I would have guessed an Audi hit you. As it stands, I'm stumped.

Figured I'd update this one more time. I've finally just about given up in my search for the circles. I visited 2 body shops and 6 car dealers in the hopes of finding out what the circles were. No one, and I mean no one could possibly come up with ANYTHING feasible from an automobile standpoint. I couldn't stand it anymore and decided to call my insurance company and attempt to argue that whatever hit me wasn't a automobile.

While the insurance agent did seem understanding, he couldn't do much for me other than escalate it to a supervisor for further review.

I guess if I'm shelling out $500.00, I'm going to get all I can out of my insurance company.

Yeehaw.

NOT an automobile? What do you think it was, a spaceship or submarine or something?

Seriously, I was thinking about your situation the other day...perplexing to be sure. I don't like being "thwarted"; everything in life needs to have a logical explanation, else I get freaked.

Good luck with the Robber Barons. AKA "insurance company." :)

Hmm...good idea...I'll start looking at pictures!!!;)

Seriously though...I do agree that it probably was something with four wheels, but the fact that nothing I see on the streets even comes CLOSE to what left this mark is what is astonishing and severely mind boggling. One of the body shop guys even said, "Boy I've seen alot, but nothing quite like that."

Frustrating as hell is all I can continue to say. Why couldn't it have just been a standard dent for crying out loud!!!!!!:|
