my family's accord has the exact same circle mark (size wise) but just one circle ... I forgot how it happened.
Just called home and they said that it was because someone backed into us (but not too hard).

looks like either a licence plate screw set, or the brushguard of a suv/truck. those often have "speed holes" that would look somewhat like that. Probably a little low though *shrug*

that was what i thought too, but those circles are jsut way too low even for a wannabe SUV like an Ion or CRV.

Ion isn't an SUV. (VUE is)

What about an attempted tow-theft gone bad? I've had two people here at work make comments about tow trucks and what they use to pickup vehicles. I always lock my wheels and if they attempted something from the back, maybe they noticed the front wheels locked and gave up??

Man I'm thinking of everything.

Well now, that would be the tell-tale marks of a fat-backed-spiny-humped-yellow-bellied-South Carolina fruit howler.
Its all to apparent from the pics, that it was trying to mate with your car's bumper.

When I used to install automatic fire sprinkler systems, we had lots of pipe on the top of the truck. If it was not fastend very tightly, it could slide off. Looks like that may have happened, they hit the brakes and the pipes slid off. We had them all shoot off once, what a mess.

I was thinking something along these lines, maybe this type of pipe hanging out the back of a pickup or trailer.

Those look like the holes from the anti-collision sensors on some cars. Take a look at a Caddillac Escalade or Deville. Those look right about the same size, spacing, and height.

What year(s)? I'm looking at the new stuff on their website and don't really see anything?

We might have a winner here with the Caddy Escalade motion sensor possibility:

"The driver can see the display of LEDs either through the rear view mirror or by turning around while driving in reverse. The ultrasonic sensors are body colored and are integrated into the bumper so that the system meets all federal regulations for bumper impact. The round sensor assemblies are approximately 35 millimeters in diameter (about 1.4 inches)."

I just have to find a damn good rear picture and one of these was parked in our parking lot last week!!!! I remember going WTF is that monstrosity while walking past it the one day here. It was parked directly in front of where my car was the one day.

This might be the break I was looking for.

Are the circles actually scratched in?

IE could they somehow be appearing from the inside-out? IT doesn't seem impossible that your bumper is made of molded plastic and those are the marks on the -inside- of the bumper coming through, if if it got hit hard enough..

But, I'll admit, from the photos they definitely look scratched. A hot exhaust pipe might do something like that, but doesn't look like the right height and 4 of them would be a little bizarre. (even a dual exhaust car, screwing up twice, seems unlikely b/c of the perfect spacing)

Bizarre.

Bizarre.

Circles are indeed scratched in...and I looked at the 02 Escalade, and I can't for the life of me see anything remote to what has been suggested. It has these ball like things, but they look nothing like what hit me.

Oh the irony! So you're saying the very thing that could've caused the damage was a collision avoidance system on a Caddy??? :p

Too funny!

Someone with some pipe hanging out the back of their trunk backed into you? Been to Home Depot lately?

Actually I did goto home depot last week come to think of it. I was buying ice salt. This pipe theory seems to be the only solid possible theory that's come out of this. My only problem with it is two things:

1. What kind of truck has a tailgate that low?? Maybe a ricer that's lowered?

2. If it was long pipes in a bed of a truck, they were sticking out, and someone backed into me, the pipes would be the only thing that would hit. Correct?

I've got scuff marks close to a solid foot above the circles and where did the hex and screw washer marks come from??

Man...the alien theory is starting to make more sense.
