What the hell happened to Nicolas Cage's Career?

Seems like most of the movies he has done recently have either been very badly received or just are very "B movie-ish". The last movie I liked him in was Lord of War but even that was not a blockbuster by any means. Anyone else feel like his acting career has been spiraling downhill as of late?

If only he could devise a way to se what's Next, the future perhaps... He'd know what movies he was going to suck in, two full minutes before he sucked in them...

Lord of War and National Treasure were cool but it's been seriously downhill since then 🙁 My favourite Cage movie was The Rock.

Lord of War was excellent. It has only been two years and apparently he has a lot on his plate right now. As long as one of the many pre-production movies he is in works out he'll be fine.

I think it may be partially due to the lack of interest in the 90's action flicks that use to be popular. He did well in those. With the current trend in movies they really don't suit his characters.

No, he's very smart. First of all, he comes from a hugely Hollywood family (Francis Ford Copola, director of Godfather, is his uncle, Sophia Copola is his cousin, his director in Adaptation [Spike Jonze] was his brother-in-law). If he wanted an easy career he'd go by his given name, Nicolas Kim Copola.. Er.. Copolla.

Secondly, he had this pattern back from day one - act in smaller/quirky movies to keep his artistic cred and then act in dumb movies to pay the bills. Let's look at this next few movies:
1) Bangkok Dangerous - Action drama (pay the bills)
2) National Treasure II - Pay the bills
3) Crazy Dog- Action/Drama written by an Oscar Winner. Perhaps to pay the bills, perhaps to flex that amazing actor in him
4) Electric God - Quirky drama from indie director
5) Amarillo Slim - Drama by Milos Forman (Academy Award Winner) and an oscar winning writer too - probably Oscar bait

The guy knows what he's doing. He does movies like Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation to show that he's an amazing actor, then does The Rock to pay for his fancy shoes.

National Treasure was a great movie. Didn't know they were making a 2nd one though. What is this one about?

He goes to find a different treasure.

Next was OK I thought.

I thought Next was alright as well. But for some reason, I just wasn't ecstatic about the movie, although I kept watching it. I think it was the reviews that I read beforehand that kind of downplayed the movie.

Ghost Rider wasn't horrible, it was just too much in a short time. The movie needed to be longer. Cage took that role because he's a huge comic book fan.

EDIT: What I think it might be.. is that Cage doesn't do movies that he knows will be good... he does movies that he will enjoy doing.

Nicholas Cage has never been a good actor and never will be a good actor. He cannot show emotion to save his life. He's terrible.

Any movie he has been in would have been better if someone else was acting as his character.

EDIT:

I do like some of his movies though, I just think he is a terrible actor who has the same monotonous tone in every movie.
