I am the person that put this rig together. It was designed from the ground up to be an HPC solution, rather than a gaming platform, so with the latest NVIDIA GPUs, we can use it for general purpose computing applications. Without SLI, we can actually utilize all the memory on all of the GPUs for use in applications.

The picture you guys see there is our prototype system where we used 6 GeForce 8800 GTS cards with 640MB each. Yes, there is only 1 power supply. The other boxes in the front are CoolIT's radiator boxes. We have 3 of them in there. One for the top 3 GPUs, one for the 2 Xeon quad core CPUs, and one for the bottom 3 GPUs.

I just got my 6 Tesla GPUs recently so I'm just in the process of setting those up and testing them out.

Wow, very cool indeed. Pun Intended. One power supply? That's really amazing, what are you using? Personally, I don't know much about HPC's so I found this link over on Nvidia's site. Guess I'll post it for anyone else who's curious. What do you actually intend on using these for and Welcome to the Forum by the way ....

Well, I'm planning on building workstations that have a sole purpose of using GPUs for high performance computing applications. There are lots of various areas where this kind of system can be applied. Generally areas where complex mathematics are involved, such as physics, raytracing, bioinformatics, etc.

So I'm primarily the person building this as a workstation, and am in the process of testing it on many aspects. Power (as in consumption), performance, support, etc. I've started my company, Tycrid, to do innovative forms of supercomputers, and this is our first product, tapping into the capabilities of the GPU for high performance computing.

6 Tesla = 1.5GB VRAM * 6 = 9GB VRAM!!

That is amazing, especially being able to utilize all that.

Welcome to the forums cheier!!
Feel free to start a thread on HPCs and educate us all!!

Thanks for the kind welcomes. I don't know if I'll have the time to start discussions, but I'll certainly try and take the time to respond to them when I can. I'm in the process of testing the system with Teslas. Although for Windows, right now it is 4 Teslas and a GeForce 8800 GTS because of a Windows issue. Linux would be fine with only Teslas, even if onboard graphics are ATI. Such is life. Back to testing and troubleshooting... :)
