Saying that "real Champagne comes from Champagne, France" is something of a tautology. The term has been expounded to include a general reference to the drink. The same is true with Burgundy, Bordeaux, etc.; all refer to specific regions in France, but internationally they connote grape varieties (and bottle shapes if you want to be pedantic) as well.
Also, drawing a general conclusion for all of Champagne from one experience is not only fallacious in logic, but also representative of a palate that needs diversification.
