i tried to get as much pixtures as i can, and at different distances. its connected to 1 pair of black wire and 1 pair of red wire and at the other end is a 4 pin molex. i attacked it to my power supply, but it didnt' seem to do anything, didn't change the fan speeds such as my front fan, etc.. or lower voltages as far as i can tell. it has 3 position on the up and down position. again, it came with the chassis and not the motherboard, my mobo is a nf7 vs2.0 (nforce 2 400 ultra)

so just what the heck is this thng?? finally got around to cleaning out my case inside, and was wondering ever since

It's probably a fan speed controller - it's impossible to say, though, without a decent picture. Pull it out so all the connectors are clearly visible and then try a picture.

It could be...a bomb! :D

Hmm...

Could you take a picture from the top of the red "joystick"? There I see the word "ON" and "OFF" near it, but there are two other words around it.

BTW, isn't a carpet floor a bad place to place your computer?

Not at all. I've had mine on a carpet floor for over 8 years. In fact I replace parts with it sitting on the floor as well, and no I don't wear an anti-static wrist strap either. :p

Inverter for lighting effects?

That can be achieved with solid state lighting with far less risk of running high voltage/high frequency through the PC. But then again, this is Thermaltake we're talking about. ;)
