Actually I think a famous news reporter first used it. Someone like Walter Cronkite during the early '70s. Surely there's someone old around here that knows the facts. ;)

It's odd how all you people mock and cut down a president with an approval rating of over 70 percent

. Anyone who knows what's really going on would not resort to such childish acts. Here we are coming from a president who openly lied to the US, then started the whole Cosavo war and proceeded to bomb the sh*t out them for 18 months to cover up the fact that he got a blow job from some skank working in the white house and you guy's are ripping on GW about the fact that his pronunciation is off due to an insanely obvious accent.

Personally, I like the sound of "aluminium", although I say it "aluminum"...

The facts are that because the world is filled with so many tone deaf idiots like Bush, scientist, engineers, and other government officials that can't talk properly, and habitually mispronounced the word, they had to put the idiot way in the dictionary as an alternative correct pronunciation. It's the same damn story with irregardless. You won't find it in old dictionaries. God I hate that too, Hay, or would had I not achieved sainthood. :D All that has to happen for a pronunciation, no matter how stupid, to become acceptable is for a sufficient number of mush headed dictionary publishers to succumb to moral temptation and include it as an alternative. There is nothing us rule obeyers can do. The language is alive and new thing will appear every day.

I know. I just linked it to make people mad! :D

That's still not as stupid as the addition of "bootylicious" to the dictionary. Somebody should be executed for that crap. :|

Dictionary- A reference book containing an alphabetical list of words, with information given for each word, usually including meaning, pronunciation, and etymology.

Bootylicious is a word(letters are put together to form those), it has a meaning no? The word fvck is in the dictionary, think that should go to? Obviously these word's are being said enough to be put in the dictionary, what I want to know is why you think someone should be killed for putting information into a book of information , or why you even care at all for that matter.

Its obvious that many of you don't leave your houses often. Walk around the streets of any metropolitan area and listen to people talk. And for all you social mutants out there, no you don't have to strike a conversation with anyone, just listen. I guarantee that you will hear numerous words and phrases pronounced differently to your liking.

Does that mean they are ignorant? No. It just means that some people are from different parts of the world and country. People speak differently from state to state but I guess that "pisses you off". I guess some of you live these sheltered lives where you don't step foot out of your little town (or basement I might add) and converse with the general public. There's probably a word or two that you can't pronounce correctly and do you think anyone is going to care? No.

Nucular ticks me off just slightly more than how Bush and Gore kept pronouncing our country... uhmurica.

I'm from the south and I have rarely heard it pronounced that way.

And you wonder why you haven't any credibility here?

It's obvious that he (GW) has a speech impediment. Making fun of him is about as tasteful as making fun of Corky.

Nucular is not and never was the correct pronunciation. But I hear it all the time in the congressional hearings and shows regarding the Iraq debate. When will people learn the correct pronunciation? :p

I have no problem with this thread, because people in positions of power have to be adept at the English language. Public speaking requires it. I am not going to lower my requirements for public speakers because we have a president who sucks at public speaking.

Did any of you see the speech where he said "Fool me once, uh.... shame on you. Fool me... well you won't fool me twice!" Bush is a complete moron!

You'd think that someone in the administration would correct him, though. But I guess no one in the inner nuculus wants to show up the boss. It seems no one's musclear enough.

who cares, its probably also of latin origin including the i in question. I find it way funnier that in his ironic remark the island of english speakers is the origin of the language

(i use the american way usually btw - thats how I learned it in good ol' KY)

What is interesting is if you listen to his father, Bush Sr. never mispronounced nuclear. George W. was therefore brought up in a household which pronounced the word correctly. Based on that I can only derive that George W. is either extremely learning disabled or that he is affecting the mis-pronounciation in order to cater to the trigger happy bubbas that want to nuke the world.

Nucular? Nuclear? Who gives a sh!t? A lot of older people grew up hearing it pronounced nucular and by habit still pronounce it that way. Most of those people are smarter and have done more in their lives than you.

What drives ME nuts is that here at my college, we have a medical imaging program where one can major in Nuclear Medicine. I've heard several students, and to my utmost dismay, PROFESSORS, who pronounce it "Nucular Medicine". That's not exactly the kind of person I want injecting radioactive substances into MY body.

That's just my opinion. Yours may vary.

Actually, aluminium is the correct spelling. We (the United States) corrupted it back in 1925 (or there abouts).

Bush Sr doesn't speak with any noticable Texan accent. I was raised in home where 'wash' was pronounced 'warsh' and 'ruined' was pronounced 'rernt', but I don't speak like my father. Maybe I'm extremely 'learning disabled'.
