He said Quake and UT not Unreal. And I've played both of them myself and still agree. IMO the action is too unrealistic - the gameplay is too fast and the weapons are too powerful. Too much spawn, kill, die, respawn, repeat. Now Halo is the same in the respawn regard but in the short time I played the kills aren't as instant.

I prefer multiplayer like Ghost Recon or America's Army where the action is "normal" paced and if you die you're out until the next round. To me that's more fun to play because it's more realistic. To each their own. My point is I don't think Shamrock should be called a noob just because he's not into that style of gaming.

I like Halo so much more than Quake/UT because there it is more strategic, imho. Why, you ask?
  • Since you can only carry two weapons, you are constantly forced to make decisions.
  • Ammo is, in many cases, in short supply.
  • Nothing like sneaking up behind someone for the melee kill.
  • The motion tracker (or lack therof) adds to the strategy.
  • Vehicles can be powerful, but they can also leave you vulnerable.
  • The slower pace makes it less of a "twitch fest".
  • Regenerating shields.
  • Etc.
I truly haven't enjoyed a multiplayer game this much since UT. 🙂

"Since you can only carry two weapons, you are constantly forced to make decisions." - Ummm... that doesn't sound fun at all. Stuck on an alien planet fighting in huge multiplayer battles with vehicles and other people trying to kill me!! Not to mention only being able to walk really slow and only having a huge circle as my gun sight? WHATEVER! Give me a ton of weapons, fast gameplay, better graphics, and leave the only choice of where to stick a projectile from one of my many destructive weapons up to me.

"The slower pace makes it less of a "twitch fest" - LOL Are you serious? Who's twitching.... The slower pace makes it flat out boring and annoying! I am sorry but I just can't get into this game and the fact that I paid for it just kills me. If anyone wants to buy it from me I'll give 'em a good deal.

I had to re-comment on your comments, but only because this little voice inside my head made me. No offence, we are just chewin' the fat as they say.

None taken, of course. We are just exchanging opinions... Even if yours sucks. 😛

I OWN UT2k3, I played Quake 3 for about a week (I always give a game a fair chance), I own Tribes 1 and Tribes 2,Battlefield 1942,Star Wars: Jedi Outcast, and HALO....I beta tested America's Army, and Planetside. I have even played the Original Doom.

The ones I play the most....

Tribes 1 and Halo

I musta hit a nerve, hehe

Ignorance.
What's more ignorant... A guy who doesn't like exactly what you like, or the guy who can't understand/accept the fact that such things are subjective?

What the hell is an "international gaming organization"? Is it some U.N. thing?

You don't see the ignorance there? Quake/UT is not instakill unless you're playing insta-gib.

This comment is ignorant because Halo has most of the elements from games that came before it. Halo doesn't reinvent the wheel.

Quake and UT arn't instakill games. Obliterating someone into a million pieces with one shot only happens in remote conditions or when you have quad / etc. You can never carry 400 different weapons, but having multiple weapons does allow for _strategy_.

Regardless, I can obliterate people in Halo pretty easy also. Especially since I can run around with a sniper rifle.

What FPS do I play most? Quake1. The original was all strategy and all skill. None yet have managed to duplicate.

Had the comment not been so ignorant, I would have ignored it. Had you just said "I like Halo better", I wouldn't have cared. But making up stuff about other games to justify buying this one required correction.

It means we have players from around the world, in USA, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Mexico, etc....you get the picture 😉 We also have game servers in USA, Canada, Australia, and a few others, totalling over 550 servers worldwide.

UT/Quake are instakill games, as I can kill ANYONE with AT LEAST 3 weapons from each game. I cant name you the weapons as I have totally forgotten the games entirely as they do not interest me at all. However, with Halo, it brings back basic hardcore action with the absolute NEED for tactics, unlike UT/Quake, where I could defend a flag, BY MYSELF. And I can tell you lack a sense of humor when I said "400 weapons" it was OBVIOUS sarcasm, but in fact, you can carry 10 weapons + grenades. Where do you put your 10 weapons? your backpack? Halo you carry 2 weapons + grenades. That requires tactics. Kill 9 enemies in UT/quake...."oops, I'm out of ammo, lemme change to one of my OTHER 9 weapons"....alotta tactics there. In Halo, you run out of ammo, you switch to ONE other weapon, and if you run out of ammo on it, you have to put down your empty weapon to pick up another. Which requires ALOT more strategy and tactics then UT/Quake.

ANd I know what you're thinking before you say it....You can kill enemies with 3 weapons in Halo too..well, sort of you can, but you have to FIND those weapons first, AND put down one of your other weapons to carry it.

Apparantly you 2 guys are the only ones offended by my statements, probably because you 2 are diehard UT/Quakers...I dont mind that, but calling me ignorant without stating your facts, is ignorance within yourself. I wont reply further, as I dont mind if you 2 play Quake/UT. It's your money, spend it how you wish. But so far, I am seeing Halo taking as the Popularity game. THere is a reason for that 🙂

And to keep this ON TOPIC...PaveSlave, yes it IS worth buying.

Have a nice day

Not everyone has the same likes/dislikes when it comes to games. As far as mulitplayer, I liked the original Unreal. Then Quake came out and got popular and when UT was released it appeared to me they tried to make a prettier Quake. Much faster player movement more powerful weapons than Unreal. To be honest I played thru the "tourney" in UT but never got into the online play. About the only thing I used my copy of UT for was the Strike Force mod. That was pretty cool but also buggy and the game wound up on the shelf.

Funny but my all-time favorite multiplayer game is Tribes1 on a Renegades server. I don't normally like the spawn, fight, die, respawn, repeat type of games but for me Tribes1 was awesome. Probably because of the different classes and the way you had to work as a team to win. I normally prefer playing things like Rogue Spear or Ghost Recon (even with their sucky AI) or America's Army. I like the more "realistic" play where your player can't run like the wind and (as others have mentioned) carry 200lbs worth of weapons. I also like the idea that if you die in a round you have to wait until the next round to respawn. That type of play eliminates the suicide runs.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to HL2 but also Call of Duty to be released in Nov (hopefully). 🙂

To me Halo is very similar to Unreal 2. But I think Halo is better because I like the environments better and the gameplay is better. Shooting the guns seems more realistic and satisfying.
Still, gameplay is nowhere near as good as UT2003. Movement, shooting and FPS in UT2003 is unequaled in any of these other games.

In response to the original question of this topic, YES, Halo is worth buying! Fun fun, and I'm playing on a Radeon8500 fine. There's some slowdown sometimes, but none that prevent me from playing properly as long as I've got specular turned off indoors. I've determined that from just playing through half of the single player! May not be worth it if you've already played and beaten it, though.

No need to get it if you already have it for Xbox. The graphics are still really good, even if you need to turn down the resolution to something like 800x600, but the fact that 800x600 is a better resolution than your average TV... Haven't messed with the multiplayer yet but the vehicle physics and vehicle combat are something special. If Halo for PC doesn't offer the vehiclur combat I imagined might be possible by just playing single player, then someone probably will think of it and cash in, because it could be really really really really fun.

I couldn't agree any less. Halo online multiplayer is more fun than I've had with a PC game since UT... Or maybe even before.

I agree Wingznut. I am having a ball with Halo online. It rocks!

Wasn't going to read whole thread.

Halo is worth buying, if you want a kick ass single player game, and amazing multiplayer, where you don't need 4 TV's and 4 Xboxes.
