What the heck is going on with high schoolers this year? My wife's district has had 4 lockdowns already this year due to threats. At least 4 other districts in the area have had more than 1 lockdown due to threats

I thought you were in SE Michigan? Just curious, because I haven't heard of any lockdowns in our district in SE Michigan, been a fairly typical school year so far.

There's something different about this school year given the number of occurrences so far. Random speculation but it wouldn't surprise me if it was some sort of dumb social media challenge

You've probably been lucky so far then. A quick google search of 'school lockdown michigan' shows that its also happening in the UP, Lansing, and other areas as well

Hate speech and violent speech has been normalized, schools have been politicized. What else would you expect--that no one pays attention to politics?

i know there was a guy driving through states and calling in threats to a number of schools along the way

he did it to ohio a while back. not sure if they've ever caught the guy.

Kids are reacting the same way their parents are to the political situation in this country.... we're in a really bad place.

Happening in the Central Valley CA as well. We just had one last week, although technically it was after school at the elementary but still, my wife had her cheer girls locked in because some guy was found outside of school grounds with a knife. At least it wasn't during normal school hours but whatever kids that were still on campus due to after school practices and programs all had to be locked down for about an hour.

The "atmosphere" has been weirdly quiet the last few days in the public places I've gone.... almost subdued.

A bit over-dramatic perhaps but all I could think of was the "the deep breath before the plunge".
