What the heck is goin on with my computer?

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. My computer has been acting strange lately. I had like 10 spyware programs installed, and I didn't even know it. Now, when I go to play games, it is VERY laggy. This is not the internet connection...but the frames per second have decreased massively. Also, in the processes list in task manager, explore.exe is taking about 50 percent of the cpu. It fluctuates between 20 and 50 when im not even doing anything.....any ideas??? Thanks!

The quick & certain cure is to reinstall Windows from scratch and shut the doors before the bugs get into the house this time 🙂

You might also have a Trojan or virus now. Do you have antivirus software, is it set up to kill on sight no questions asked, did you do an exhaustive scan and is it using the very latest antivirus definitions that are no more than a day old? Do you have firewall software and/or hardware? If you need free firewall and antivirus software, click the link in my signature and go to the Resources page.

Yes I have AV software and a firewall. I have scanned the disk twice now with two programs. No trojans or viruses....which is why I cannot figure this out. I really would hate to have to install windows again.

General consensus is to use two programs for spyware, many use both Adaware and Spybot. Have you made sure to update your AV and anti-spyware definitions?
