What the heck is Appletalk and do I need it in Win2k server?

Everytime i boot up my computer i have this error in my event viewer:

No adapter is configured to be the default adapter. Appletalk was not initialized on any adapter. Services over AppleTalk e.g. Print Server, File Server etc. will not be functional unless a default adapter is specified.

Do I need to have Appletalk enabled? If so, then why? I currently have two computers connected via a crossover cable and they both have access to the internet (cable modem) and both can share files so why do I need Appletak? Someone please explain. thanks.

You only need it if you have Macs on your network, and you could still work around not having it if you install software on the Macs.

You probably have an unneeded protocol installed in the Network Control Panel (Local Area Connection Properties).

I'd say it's safe to select it and remove it, if you're not using it...

I sometime will be inside an Apple Network.. can I install appletalk protocol in W2K to talk with Macs? Or do I need W2K server to do that??

I'm nearly positive you need server, isn't MS nice?

If the Macs are OS X you can browse to SMB shares from them, just the PC won't be able to browse the Macs.

Unless you install SAMBA. 🙂
