at zippy: haha
at GF: hahahahahahahahahahahah (the extra "haha"'s are for all the threats you've never followed up on, and I suspect this "wet noodle" threat will join that long list ;))

Bottom line. If you're going to sensor what people say thru the use of software filters then you have made a determination that some words are so unacceptable and offensive that they are grounds for banning. Okay, fine thats your perogative, so do as you wish. Finding a way to defeat that software and post the offensive words anyway is also grounds for banning. Okay, fine again, your call again. At the same time, you should also extend the consequence for the posting of those words to others that find a not too unsimilar way to defeat the software. Harvey's Bullsh8 comes readily to mind. You should ban him also. Along with everyone else who posts similarly. Otherwise you've established and sanctioned a dual standard. If thats what you wish to have here then please stop denying that fact. Post it in the rules that all members here will not be treated equally. Then at least noone will have any reason to complain.

Hmmm, it just occurred to me that the moderation here seems to be going the same way as the election in Florida. The process seems to be entirely subjective rather than objective.

<< I'm holding her to those threats - she will too follow up on them >>

I'll believe that when I see pictures of you, GF and a wet noodle...ok, maybe I don't want to see that, I'll just take your word when it happens ;)

I've been known to "bypass" the language filters now and then to add a little "word of color" to my posts. I guess the reason I've never been banned for it is because I'm a moderat....umm....elite member.

Sorry Windogg, but you're offer of Strawberry ice-cream is simply no match for GF's noodle offer :)

You'll have to do better than that!

I think we fund another bug for zuni to fix then. Girlfriday is on the lowbandwidth mod do to her very slow connection. So she does not see the edit button on every post.

Has for my thoughts on evan, I think it was a bit extreme to ban him, I can see grounding him to for what he did, but banning him? What about everyone else on these forums that has gotten around this filter? At least stay consistant.

That's the most logical thing to do. When people post stuff like swe*r word with only the asterisk in place of a letter that will complete the word, they too are bypassing the filtering system. The true intentions of the person's message can still be understood by readers - just as much as if he/she posted the real thing.

Unfortunately, I think the policy has more to do with getting the banner ad companies upset than anything else. I'm pretty sure AnandTech is in a "family" category so that advertisers know the target audience for their ads. Part of being in the "family" category probably involves not having pornography and not have swear words in the content of the web site. So, in order to keep the advertisers happy, and keep the funding for this great site coming, you've got to use censorship. I'm against censorship in a lot cases because in the end, the actual message really isn't censored since people can figure it out...but the ad banner companies probably are a little less intelligible and a lot more attentive of face value morality.

I just want ya'll to know...

I have no official stance on this issue. I don't know any of you besides that wonderfully cute pic above your nic's. If these blokes p'sd someone in authority off, well then, they should know better.

There, my second post and I'm already smoozin' the mods, how 'bout that?

InBTL became a sport, simply b/c the mods were so fast, but it just added to more posts and traffic and I suppose that's what made it tiresome for the mods.

And as for the banned naughty words, I can appreciate the reasons for that, since this site has to pay the bills somehow. People can still get the message across as sh0wn !n above ex@mples, as long as people don't get extreme and vulgar.
