in math class?

I was hoping not to completely coast, but learning things like java, C# or C++, and things like that. Ah well, he claims he works for sun microsystems, but knows jack sh!t...I'll bet he's just the janitor there or something

normally i would say that response is appropriate, but i think for once this is a valid rant.

the answer is obvious: st@b him.

his answer, "because i like 98 better"

Sounds like you have a bit of an attitude with him, and you try and upstage him in class by flaunting your computer knowledge.

This is probably the reason that he marks you down on highly subjective assignments like "installing Windows."

but still, a 60%?

fine, mark me down a few points, for trying to teach you something, but that's just too much...

I'd go talk with the head of that department and voice your concerns. And if nothing else, get an appointment with the dean.

good point.

neonerd, you need to be polite. even if you dont like him, having an attitude will get you nowhere in school or in real life. trust us.

learn to accept people and their ignorance because some people are unwilling to learn or listen to a voice of reason. you have to move on and not let it drag you down.

You pretty much have only two choices...

1) Ask him what you can do better for next term.
2) Accept that everybody gets screwed one time or another in school... Quit whining, get over it, and move on.

You see, my performance on that assignment would've cost him a career, more than likely.

The guy probably has a fragile ego, and being upstaged by some 15 year old kid is just going to build resentment.

I don't understand how you can "grade" a Windows installation anyway. Either it works or it doesn't. Unless he's grading you on following directions (which he apparently isn't) or the grade has to be a subjective evaluation, in which case your attitude WILL come into play.

Take this as a lesson learned for college. Sometimes the seemingly "easy" classes are the ones that bite you in the ass.

My 'programming' teacher in HS was a moron. He didn't teach, just sat at his desk and gave out a packet at the beginning of the term. I slept about half the term and still passed. Sad thing is that I took all three programming classes, hoping I'd learn something. I should've taken team sports instead.. or chemistry.. or something.

There was also this moron in my classes who would call megabytes "emm-bees." I said to him once "you know, that's wrong." he replied, "yeah, but I like saying it like that." I called him a moron and then stopped helping him with his code.

Yep, math class. We had several computer-related assignments. Some of them optionally involved programming.

Anyway, seems like you are behind the curve on comp sci education, because you didn't know the unwritten rule.

Also, I highly doubt you have provided all the information that we would need in order to assess why you got a 60 on installing windows 98. Maybe you forgot to do something, for example run windows update or similar.

Oh, I just love how when u try to click on some text it gets replaced by a fat ugly pencil. Maybe I'll do that on my website

Seriously, in highschool, you'd be better off learning coding by urself, you'll be that much more ready for college if ur gonna do comp sci. forger this this BS

Ah I remember when I took CS in high school. She would just get this college level packet and hand it to us while she sat in her chair surfing all day. A lot of students failed her class except for the bright cs guys. I wasn't bright but she let me onto her computer one day to check a program ..... I ended up going through her files and getting the test and answer. She always wondered how I ended up getting higher grades than her brightest students and would make me take the same test like 5 times in a row.

She eventually gave up and told me she doesn't know how I started doing so well. heheh

computer isn't online....the only thing is we had trouble with one of the video card drivers since the teacher forgot to give them to us. He yelled at us at first for not installing it, and the next day give us the disk....it should be his fault for not knowing where the video card driver disk is...I'm sorry, but i don't have a habit of carrying around random video card drivers in my bag, even though I always have spare connectors, cables, and tools in my bag. ;)

That's the only part I left out, but he just didn't give the driver to us...didn't tell us the type of card in there, and we weren't online, so no way to get the driver anyways. He left for that class, so we were left in there biting our asses until he came back at the end of the period

IIRC, Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft. I haven't used Win98 in awhile, but I'm guessing you can no longer run Windows updates for it.

My HS computer teacher at least knew BASIC well enough to teach it. I took every computer course my school offered, and then he went ahead and let me and a buddy teach ourselves C, and graded us based on our end programs. To be sure, I coasted a lot, but I also maintained basically every computer in the school, a Novell Netware 3 server (not the main one, a secondary), helped run cable, etc...
He didn't have time to do all the stuff that was necessary AND still teach K-12 computer classes. Even tried to get me a job there after I graduated, but they gave all the teachers a choice between having someone dedicated to the computers or a recess monitor (so the teachers wouldn't have to stand outside and watch the kids themselves). Guess which one they chose?
It was a great experience for me though, maintaining everything from Ataris to Pentium 90s (and pretty much every step inbetween)

Ha, true, I got a B- in a friggin' Javascript class in college, whereas my grades in subjects that kicked my ass, like discrete math, were much better.

Um.. how big is this school of yours? Small schools often can't afford to hire expert teachers in every field, usually they have to teach multiple subjects. If that list of last years seniors is complete, i would say your in a very small school. Which can be a good thing and bad thing as your finding out.

Sorry to hear about the grade... that sucks. Try to be civil in your complaint to him... even put what you give him in writing - make a list of errors for your grades, as well as find out WHY you got a 60 for installing windows...

So I should ask him to write down what he believes the reason is for the grade?
