What the Doctor Says vs. What the Patient Hears (A Fausto Rant)

Don't you just love how everyone bitches about physicians becuase they never seem to fix the "problem"? Strangely, the "problem" persists in many cases because people don't fscking listen. Alternatively, they listen, don't like what they hear and then proceed to make things up.

An example of what I'm talking about:

I'm in the elevator the other day. There are two women chatting......one of normal build and one running somewhere around 300lbs. The large one is wearing one of those walking cast/boots on one foot for sprains/minor fractures/etc. She's telling the smaller woman that she has "Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome" (like carpal....but feet instead of hands). I comment that I've never heard of that before (I hadn't). She says to me (with a straight face), "The doctor said it's from too much walking." 😕

Now, I have personally witnessed this woman so out of breath that she had to stop and rest walking up a ramp between two of the buidings here (about 100 feet long at about a 5% grade) so she sure as hell isn't powerwalking 5 miles a day in her spare time. Basically, the doctor said, "Walking with as much extra weight as you're carrying is putting a ton of stress on your feet and ankles. This is what caused the TTS." and all she heard was "You walk too much." and went to go load up at the chicken wing bar in the cafeteria.

That's her interpretation of what the doctor said...the doc should've just taken out the stapler and used it to bind her mouth 😉

Strangely she may have been uncomfortable telling you "it's because I'm too fat."
And maybe this was a wake-up call that she should pay attention to instead of carting off enough wings to fill two of those styrofoam container thingys (which is why she was in the elevator; coming back from the cafeteria).

Perhaps one of those containers was for a co-worker? I often do the food run for my peers and come back with a tray piled high.

Definitely not. I've seen this woman having lunch in the cafeteria before, she eats like they're going to outlaw food tomorrow.

I dunno who has the bigger problem, people who overeat or nosy people who can't keep their eyes on their own plates, what do you think?😛

Man Id love to see her in a thong😀

My weak attempt at the obligatory thong post ..................

Fausto, my mom came home crying today after you did this to her =( I gave her some light, fruity White wine though and it cheered her right up! =)

Selective amnesia.

This will give her even MORE reason not to exercise.

She will be one of those chunky folks you see riding around on a electric scooter, paid for in a lot of case's by our tax dollars....

Hey, people can do whatever they want. Just don't lie to me (and, more importantly, yourself) about why your foot is screwed up.

Just remember that inside every morbidly obese person there's a skinny person who accidentally got in the way at lunchtime.

And yet you butt into my thread......hmmm.......

😉

My real point (I guess) is that the load on out health care system could be a lot lower if people weren't so fscking obstinate about things. Your doc tells you stuff for a reason. If you're going to ignore him and hit the wing bar....again....don't waste his time (and money) at all.

Since we are not in possesion of her medical records nor are we doctors, why not just wish such a person a speedy recovery and mind our business?

Interestingly a lot of fat people seem to be oblivious to the fact that a 300 lb frame is going to wreak havoc on one's joints.

Why should we sugarcoat the obvious?

At least she hasn't gotten to the point where they need 20 firefighters to carry her to the hospital for dental work yet

😀 damn... that made me laugh 'til I cried... 😀

You want really bad fat person denial? There is this morbidly obese lady (450+ lbs) who works in my building, and everytime she waddles (literally) past the smokers outside the building, she covers her face with her scarf and pretend-coughs. It's nuts.
