It's banned because it's toxic. There are no hallucinogenic properties to it at all.

Toxic? Everything can be considered toxic.

You can still buy it in a lot of places, just without the ingredient that makes it cause hallucinations.

So I guess that kinda defeats the point, eh?

If you want the real stuff you have to do a bit of work for it.

Had some when I was in Prague a few years ago w/a friend. It kicked my ass. It should have been a clue though when the rest of the table (we ran into 4 other Americans in this bar) declined the shots we bought them. My buddy and I were like, "That's cool, more for us." We severely underestimated the power of the Absinthe.

IIRC there are only a few countries that you can legally buy/sell "real" Absinthe in.

Everclear is available in New Orleans.

But then again, you can get alcohol here at 3 am on a Sunday night here.

What you get in america is not absinthe, it is pastis which is just a milder form.

It is not one set percentage/proof either and also the "real" absinthe uses the european proof which is a little different:

100% = US 200 Proof
100% = EU 175 proof

so european 140 proof is roughly 160 US proof

it depends on how it is made, you can get it anywhere from 40% upto 80-95% (160-190 US proof)

also, if you take one shot of everclear and 1 shot of absinthe i'm sure you'll get more of an effect from the latter.

Yes, if yo go to a store to buy it you will not be getting real absinthe, but there are other sources.

absinthe=alcohol+hallucinogen, increasing the consumption of alcohol is detrimental to the effects of the hallucinogen.

Absinthe

When the sign on the wall says "UNLEASH THE GREEN FAIRY" ... let's just say it cemented my faith in alcohol. :p

LOL, - I've only had absinthe once - it was unreal.

From what I've heard, it intensifys colour greatly to the point of hazing, not unlike low-dosage shrooms. Never had either of the two, so can't speak personally. I do know that no one who drank it that night had a raging hangover the next morning, so that's more than I can speak of the birthday girl. ;)

There's such a thing as a "low dose" of shrooms?

Depends on how quick you hurl.
