What temperature for 4400+

Hi all, after a lot of reading I have taken the plunge and just rebuilt my system with an amd 4400+ and a geforce 7800 gt. I opted for these rather than more expensive components as im hoping to overclock both( something i have never attempted before and very nervous about).

My first questions are what temps should these be allowed to get to without worry of damaging them?

At stock i hanve noted that the processor temp is approx 35C when idle, 45 after running 3d mark 05 and creeped up to 50 after playing half life lost coast for 10 mins.

Is this normal as i thought 50 was getting a little high.

The maximum core temperature for these processors seems to lie around 65 - 70°C (following AMD's specs), so you're still safe... However, buying a better HSF would be a possible outcome, but how is the airflow of your case? Maybe that one's not sufficient...

50°C celsius is kinda about the max your processor should be under load, but it's no disaster if it hits this barrier... Try Prime95 (run it on both cores) to stress your processor even more... If temps are about 55°C or higher, then you'll have to find a solution... Seeing that this is on stock speeds and stock voltages, it's not very encouraging, however, your idle temp is very good...

HSF-wise, my recommendation is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, which provides high-end cooling at a mid-range price... Plenty of reviews around the web to prove this...

ok thx for your reply, whilst i was playing cod2 on max settings today the temp crept up to 53C so it is getting a little high. I will download prime 95 and give that a try. My pc case is in acabinet which may not help, i will pull it out next time to see if that helps.
