I just wanna know the temp your CPU gets to when playing Q3, and idle on win2K
anyother infor would also be nice.

plez give CPU brand, clockspeed, OS, game....

I am just making sure my CPU dosent burn up or anything

i am on a P3 600B and runs at about 55 C idle and 74C when Q3

something is very wrong with your temperatures as they are far too high!
is your hsf on properly?
is the fan working?
have you got a thermal interface between the cpu & hsf,pad or thermal paste?
what sort of case ventilation/cooling have you got?
my p3 runs 23-25C at idle & 38C under full load with a gorb!

P3-600E @ 800EB, Alpha P3125S, 1.65v.

Idles around 25-30C. Maxes out around 37-40C. (this is dependant on case temp).

Your P3 is being pushed to the edge there!!

Really it should be no more than 50-55 at full load.

those temps are way too high. i have 26C on idle and upto 46C on high load (rc5, q3a). a few times had a 50C spike, but thats rare.

Some motherboards report twice the actual temperature, it seems to me like you have one of those.
My PIII-733@852 is about 28C idle and 44C during high load (such as Q3 or NHL2001).
I use a Gorb because it's pretty silent.

Idle = 33C
After Q3A 1 hour play = 40C

Nver saw it get higher then 42C and that with no air conditioning in the summertime.

I've got the feeling that the P3V4X is one of those mobo's that Platypus is talking about.
I'm too am on that very board and my temperature readings are way over the top as well.

Shouldn't we begin to see some instability and random reboots if the CPU hits 72 C????

My P3 650E is always 32-38 degrees celsius whenever I check the BIOS shortly after rebooting. Also the CPU fan is always reported as running at 0 RPM (ie not active).

I've never the checked the temp when my system is running.

BFG10K,I suspect that your cpu fan is actually plugged into the power fan header of your m/board & not the cpu fan header hence your readings!

idels at room+2C
max about room +5 celcius. or around 29 C

HOwever these results are from a great chip and most people will see higher temps however 55 and 74 are excessive.

Yeah you're right. I just checked it and it was plugged into the wrong the plug. I've changed it over now.

Is that a 600EB or 600B. Very important, since 600E/EB is .18 micron , while the 600B is still .25 Micron(and the end of line for .25micron P3s).
