Just out of pure curiosity, I want to know what kind of systems you guys are running, what hardware, OSs, etc. Here is a bit about my system.

My "main box" is a Cyrix 333 Running Red hat 7. It has 128 Meg of ram,
and a 15gig hd. I run a matrox millenium and a USR modem.

My "other" box is a AMD400 with 128 Meg of ram, the same matrox card, and
a 4.3 gig HD. Usually I run Windows98SE and Corel Linux 1 Dual-booted, But
from time to time, I switch those around.

I have a few "crash boxes" which are setup just to test something, and those
are a Packard Hell P100, w/8 meg built in, a PH 166, a pentium 100 box with 32 meg EDO, and several HD and Video card assortments, I use those to run off-path
Operating systems and such. One of them will be running QNX this weekend, for some thrashing. I run Minix on these from time to time.

So what are you running? how do you usually set it up?

jmcoreymv, that's a good question. I've had that old Diamond Stealth video card since 1996. It was one of the best cards back when I bought it, and it cost a couple hundred dollars. It's been a good card for 3 different processors: Pentium, Pentium Pro, and now a Pentium III.

I guess I never replaced that card because I'm not into playing game software, so I haven't needed the 3D acceleration of the newer graphics cards. I've thought about getting a better one a few times, but I always decide to wait for the "next big thing" in graphics. Now I think I might wait for the nVidia NV20 chipset to be released before I get a new card. I'm also hopeful that the future Matrox G800-based card will be good.

I really just looking for a great card for a software development workstation. It needs to have super-stable Windows 2000 driver support and great 2D quality. Anybody have any suggestions? The future Matrox G800 sounds like what I'll want.

Well, I personally run 3 (4 if you count the router) systems. One I just recently ressurected:

Main system:

I use Win2k Pro on it, with multi-boot into RH7 and Be

Gaming / Multimedia:
Duron 950 128mb, Radeon 32mb DDR, IBM 75GXP 30gb, SBLive, Intel Pro-100, Toshiba 6x DVD - Win98 SE for this guy

Recently Ressurected:
ASUS P55T2P4 AMD K63+ 450mhz 64mb, Savage 4 32mb, 3com 10/100, Adaptec 2940, IBM 4gbN, Toshiba 12x CD, Voodoo2, Sounblaster Pro (ouch!) - Also Win98 SE
I kinda threw this one together with old parts...

Router:
Gateway 486 mainboard with Intel 83mhz overdrive! WOHOO! (I remeber my friend spent ~$300 for that bad-boy), ATI Mach 64, 32mb ram, 3com 10/100 PCI, 3com 10 ISA - runs freeSCO off of a floppy (no HD)

All of that is hooked up with my Intel 8port 100 switch and out to the net via cable.

My roomates have just as much equipment as I do! :) You should see our "computer room"!!

My box is a PIII550, 512MB RAM(thanks to cheap RAM prices:p), 12X DVD, Hollywood+ DVD decoder, Turtle Beach Montego II, TNT2 Ultra 32MB, a bunch of IBM HD's, CD burner, ect. ect.

I am running Slackware w/ 2.4.0test10 kernel as my main os. I usually have another OS going on my smallest HD just to play with, right now it is about to be QNX I suspect.

Skaven: just out of interest, how did you get a K6-3 to run on that particular motherboard? I thought it only supported CPUs up to 200 MHz? I read about how this can be done a long time ago, but I don't remember where, or how it is done...

I have 2 machines networked together sharing a cable connection through a Linksys DSL/Cable router. The machines are the same as my sig below ..

I run WME and W2K Pro most of the time with the frequent booting of Red Hat 7. ;-)

At work I use the following:

Intel P3 600 w/WNT 4.
Intel P# 450 w/W95
Sun Ultra 5 w/Solaris 2.6 (6)
Sun Ultra 10 w/Solaris 7
Sun Ultra 60 w/Solaris 8

I also use VME Chasis based systems with realtime cards running VXWorks.

zuffy,

Just curious,

Why do you have a 4mb video card on your primary gaming machine? You have an Asus v7100 in your machine that you only play freecell on. hehe... doesn't add up!

divinemartyr,

I don't play games much to begin with. Also, UBID the ripe off whore decided to sent me a P2Z-VM instead of a P2B-VM. This low end MBD don't have a AGP slot so I can't use my Asus 7100 or my ATI Rage 128 Magnum 16MB video card. I never bother to fight it since the box that came with MBD was a P2B-VM box (I know some bast*rd swap the system board) and asking UBID for a RMA will be a nitemare. I took my lose and ran away.
