<< wtf does she need a suv for in the city? Bay area none the less. >>

I guess she's bored and looking for ways to put her out of her boredom. I support buying a new car cuz we'd trade in our old mazda MPV minivan (eveyone used to have one, now it's just ghey :)) which means i wont have to drive it when i get my license in 1-2 months!

rather than try to force my own selfish views of what kind of vehicle everyone on the planet should drive vs. letting individuals like what they want...................

I have heard good things about the Toyota Sequoia.

I have a Durango, and a Ranger 4x4. (along with my GSXR)

I am extremely dissapointed in the Durango's mileage, less than 11 mpg around town. But it rides like a charm, and I feel a lot safer going on trips with my 5-year-old daughter in the Durango. Plus, it's nice to be able to drop the seats down in the back, and throw out sleeping bags, and camp whereever I park.

If I hadn't been given such a sweet deal from my friend that works on a lot, I would probably go with the Toyota, or a GMC.

In Alphabetical order to inhibit flaming: Wifey and I shopped around due to a growing family.
Acura MDX
Chevy Trailblazer
Ford Explorer
Isuzu Axiom
Jeep Cherokee
At the top $ end was the Acura.
At the bottom $ end was the Axiom.
She liked the Jeep. Truth be told so did I. It is very easy to drive, very smooth in city traffic. It is big enough for us and what trips we take (Miami and Gainesville) so it is a good fit.
Good luck in your search.

Another one she might look at is the Infiniti QX4. Personally, I would go with the BMW if given the choice.

If I were you, I'd personally would rather have 3 new cars than one used SUV (can be found for about the same price). That way your mom, your dad, and you can all have their own car. That would remove boredom, it would prevent begging for the use of a vehicle, save tons of money in gas, and if you drive all 3 at once you will have much more room than one SUV.

What about Toyota 4Runner? Not extremely expensive, but very reliable and not bad looking...

How about an Infinti QX4?? Its about $10k cheaper than the 6-cyl X5 (here in Canada).

Its real nice in the inside and looks good from the outside and powerful as well. My uncle recently got one thats why I suggested it.

Both true, but what's so bad about the Pathfinder?

I used to live in Marin, and I own an SUV. Of course I also was teaching scuba diving and was on the search and rescue team there, so I did needed one. I own an expedition and really like it, not too big like the excursion, and not too small like the explorer.

Hhhmm. Let me ask what's so good about the Pathfinder/QX45 ? :)

Performance, handling, out of ordinary off-roading, extra luxury, space, cheap ? None actually.

And that's in part half the reason why the Lexus RX, Acura MDX, Merx ML, BMW X5 etc sell multiple times more than QX45.
Infact, in one of the C&D comparoes, it was pretty much listed on the bottom of the pack.

When the Pathfinder was initially introduced some automotive-light-years back, it wasn't too bad. But over a period of time, IMO it's grown pretty weak in face of it's competition. PLus with the introduction of the Highlander and Honda Pilot, even the base PathFinder's days are quite numbered.

On the plus side, it is a decent reliable Ute, but nothing more really.
