what is .bak file?

i asked for all the tables that we're using for this database..
and this guy gave me a .bak file.

i'm assuming that it's a back up file to something.

but what kinda software does it need to open up?

AutoCAD uses .bak files for backup files, just as you suggested. I think I was able to open one once by changing the extension to .dwg, the normal AutoCAD file extension.

Try to change the .bak to whatever the normal file extension is and see if it opens.

edit: I mean change the .bak to whatever your normal dbase file extension is.

That is what I stick on the end of any file before I tweak it where I might still need the original

Whenever I get an unknown file extension (to Windows, at least), I just try opening it up in Notepad first. If it looks garbled/encrypted, then it's real important. ;) .bak is obviously a backup file to somethin...

Same here. I've always thought .bak was a generic extension used for that purpose by any number of apps.
