What steps could have been taken to avert the shuttle disaster?

Kiyup - What good would it do if they did decide the shuttle was damaged. Let all 7 know they were doomed. there was no way on that flight to inspect and determine the damage. EVEN if they did ascertain the damage, there was no way to repair it in space. Now who are you going to shame? Besides they still haven't explained TWA 800 and those 747's still fly every day. Worry about that! Those 300+/- people were not adventurer's armed with the knowledge of the risks.
