What state makes the best cheddar cheese?

I'd probably say Wisconsin if you like it nice and sharp... but I imagine California uses the same techniques and has the same breeds of cattle .... so it may be just as good from there...
 
I want to invent... SPAM CHEESE... it'd have so much nitrates it makes your mouth shrivel up.
 
States don't make cheese. Cheesemakers in states make cheese. And, it comes down to the individual producers.

However, a large part of the cheese quality is determined by individual state properties. Like regulations on feed, storage, chemical additives, types of feed grown in that state, etc.

It's like maple syrup. The Feds have a maple syrup law. But Vermont has their own far stricter law. Which is why Vermont makes the greatest maple syrup in the whole damn world.
 
I had some of the best cheddar cheese ever and it was from Ireland. The flavor was very much "yo, I'm cheddar, i'm in your face yo!"
 
Anyone else annoyed with California and all its horseshit commercials trying to claim its the best at everything? Those happy cow commercials are crap. They show these cows all hanging out in a lush green field chatting and loving it. I drove by a field of cows when we were in California, it was just a bunch of brown dead grass with tumble weeds blowing around...I have to assume the cows secreted powdered milk. And this was when we were in Northern California. I'm sure not all cow pastures are like that in California, but those cows didn't look to happy to me.

What's next? California claims it has the best Potatoes, stealing the only claim poor Idaho has to anything at all? Seriously California, you're a dick. You're good at a lot of stuff, let the rest of the states have their few crappy exports. And no one likes your dry as a fart tomatoes.

Anyway, Vermont sucks for a lot reasons, but our sharp cheddar is king.
 
There's no indigenous ingredients in any one state that would make one state's cheese better than the other. It has to do with the preparation method and the recipe.

There's some kick as cheese makers around Frankenmuth MI. They have an extra sharp cheddar at one place that's aged for 4 years. It'll make the hair on your neck stand up 🙂

what? It all makes a difference. The breed of cow. The climate, soil and the resulting vegetation that the cows eat. To say geography is irrelevant is silly.
 
The Horseradish Cheddar sold at Brennan's Market in Wisconsin is simply the best cheddar cheese I've had in my life. Dunno who the specific farms or producers are though.
