It's just not that easy to get more than four or five women in bed at the same time. ;)

Yeah, I used to drink frappucinos, but I quit them a couple of weeks ago. That was my only source of caffeine. Other than those, I've always been pretty anti-caffeine.

I don't do sodas or juice. I've always been a straight water guy, even when I eat out. Occationally I'll have an IBC Root Beer or glass of skim milk, but not often.

Meat means all kinds of meat. I admit 75% of it is beef, but I like lean chicken and fish. The bummer is my GF hates fish, so I don't get it as much as I like. The upside is she likes shrimp :)

White rice is bad? What about those wild rice mixes?

Finally, where is the line in "no pain no gain?" I know that this isn't going to be pain free, but where is the line?

BTW, thanks for the advice :)

Shrimp is pretty hi-cholesterol. Perhaps FRESH fish would be more appetizing to your GF . . . there are SO many varieties.

White rice has all the "food value" removed in the processing (that's why they HAVE to enrich it). To make it tastier, try mixing white with unpolished rice 50-50.

where is the line in "no pain no gain?" - DISPROVEN, old school - now considered extreme and actually conterproductive. ;)

You haven't been keeping up. :Q

:D

EDIT: Just from thinking about the "animal kingdom" - the animals with the most "endurance" eat plant based diets (horses, gazelles, etc.) while their predators are good for just a burst of speed. ;)

Yeah, most of what I know, I learned in the army 15 years ago. But there IS going to be pain in the form of hitting your endurnace wall, and pushing past it. If you don't push past the wall, the wall will never go away. I guess I'm a pussy and I think fatigue and pain are the same thing ;) Pain like what I have with my windpipe/lungs, and shins are a different matter. I KNOW those aren't good, and are signs to stop. I was just hoping I could push it a little harder and recondition my lungs. dammit. :(

I don't care what anyone says about shrimp. The stuff is just too good to not have once a week or so :)

I've tried everything with the GF, but I can't get her to cook fish, or to stick around if I try and cook it. The best I can do is drag her to Red Lobster and I eat the baked fish of the day while she eats shrimp and chicken.

Next you're going to tell me Salmon and halibut is bad, right? :p

Yeah, I know meat slows you down a bit, but remember, I'm also trying to build up some strength at the same time. :)

Heck no, I eat Salmon just for the hellabut. :)

I am not vegetarian . . . my diet is about 80% plant-based - the rest comes from dairy (cheese/yougurt) and fish.

You KNOW what is right for you and you are to be commended for making positive changes in your lifestyle. The "pain" thing is not to be ignored, however. Pushing your body way past that means you are tearing something down, not building (at least not optimizing your exercise).

A little pain is ok . . . continuing to excercise beyond real pain or fatigue is not.

You might consider taking a natural Vitamin E supplement . . . it helps to carry more oxygen to your battle-scarred lungs. There are other Traditional Chinese Medicines that may help here. A MD probably can't do much other than to diagnose your lung-problem (I doubt you are ready for a lung-transplant).

:D

I'm just too lazy to get up and go. I've been looking into joining the gym for the last few months, but I'm just too lazy!

Lung damage from pneumonia, an artificial hip and quadruple bypass surgery have slowed me down a bit.

my hips are mainly what bother me. My right leg is 3/8" longer than my left, and even with extra insoles in my left shoe, my stride is still uneven. Running up hills makes it even worse. After long distance runs, my hip flexors are screaming for relief. Other than that, I can usually go for distance runs without any problem. Although, strangely enough, this weekend my hips have been fine. I ran a 5.2 mile race yesterday and a 5K today, and the only things that hurt are my calves (so many hills....!) and my ingrown toenail.

I got the WORST "smog block" while riding home from Altadena one day. I could barely breathe and I seriously thought I was going to die :( It took about an hour of lying on the grass before I could take more than a shallow breath.

My lungs and legs (the back part of my leg below my knee) stop me. My lungs burn really, really badly when I run a lot.

I'm outta shape :(

I've been meaning to get into shape for a long time, but something always stands in the way...

Right now I just started university (engineering) so I won't have time for anything other than a few hours of volleyball a week.

That was my excuse when I started my business. It's crap :p

Just go to bed an hour earlier, and wake up an hour earlier to run or bike. That's exactly what I should have done years ago.

Trust me, make this an unbreakable habit and you'll thank me in 15 years. :p

pansy feet. I'd get blisters if I ran more than 2 miles every other day.

"Smog Block" ?

So is that the accepted name for it? I sure know what you're talking about, though. I used to get it back in the 70s when the smog was at least 10 times worse in the LA area. I had to lay on the sofa after riding my bike home from school and my breathing was really shallow. Any deeper and it felt like I was getting stabbed in the chest. :(

Pffft. That's a worse excuse than the "lazy" one. :p

There are ways to prevent blisters, ya know?

Me being asian (or chinese, specifically). :) Truthfully, I believe that asians are inherently less able to perform aerobic-type abilities for any extended amount of time. I play hockey and I swear that I'm sucking wind halfway through a shift while my linemates are still out there chasing the puck like they're fresh throughout the shift. And believe me, they're not all that much more physically fit than I am.

Someone please tell me my hunch is correct... because my friend who is also asian feels the same way. Think about all the pro-athletes out there and what percentage of them in the major sports are asian. I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

i think the same. most of the asians (or chinese, like me) are less physically capable then my other friends. i was just about the only chinese (or asian) guy on the basketball team in school. i think it has to do with the genetics and asians are just not designed to do some certain physical tasks as effeciently. but i dont think it is an extremely limiting factor if you train. most of the asians i know, dont do many sports or only concentrate on schoolwork. I, on the other hand, like training in school, and therefore i can keep up with most of the others.

laziness mostly, but after that leg strength. It used to be lungs, but all the diving i did over the summer changed that. It's incredible what that will do for your lung capacity. too bad I'm such a lazy ass...
