Right now I am sorta thinking of 3D QLC as the "planar TLC" of the 3D NAND world......and one thing I am wondering about is voltage drift from unpowered DATA retention. (Last generation 15nm TLC was the best according to Glaring_Mistake's findings......but what will happen this generation?)

Think Toshiba/SanDisks 19nm was good too and that Samsung's 16nm TLC NAND faired pretty well, it was SK Hynix's and Intel/Micron's 16nm TLC NAND that suffered the most from voltage drift in my tests (keep in mind though that it can be difficult to determine just how much it is down to the NAND instead of for example the controller/algorithms.)
I'm considering purchasing some drives using QLC NAND to see how well they hold up, think the Adata SU630 is the most likely candidate so far.

Is QLC is already being used for thumb drives?

Tomshardware has said that SanDisks 400GB microSDXC is supposed to use QLC NAND but otherwise I think it's been pretty quiet on QLC NAND being used in cheaper memory cards and flash drives.

Strange, the price is higher than the 860evo but the performance is significantly worse.

Agreed, but like Billy pointed out in the review, it's likely because it is a new product, and prices should fall below their 860 EVO prices.

If I remember correctly, Samsung did that when they announced and launched their 970 series. I think they initially listed higher prices, but when it actually launched, the prices were lower.

edit:

I found the article, and they did drop the prices: https://www.pcworld.com/article/326...g-970-pro-970-evo-nvme-ssd-launch-prices.html

It's crazy how much SSD prices have fallen. For example, the 970 EVO launched in May 2018. The 500 GB version was $200, and six months later it goes for $120.

Now if only RAM would get back near where it started before price fixing high demand caused it to almost triple.

The ADATA SU630 Ultimate drive is now available for purchase:

https://shop.adata.com/us/ASU630SS-240GQ-R

https://shop.adata.com/us/ASU630SS-480GQ-R

https://shop.adata.com/us/ASU630SS-960GQ-R

With that mentioned, direct from ADATA is the only place I can find it so far. (Hopefully prices drop because those prices from ADATA are a bit high IMO)

P.S. This drive according to the Anandtech news post uses Intel 3D QLC NAND and Maxio Technology MAS0902A controller.

It's available at Alternate and Amazon in Germany too.
