Title says it all. Thats whats on our P670 servers, and I wonder how powerful 16 of these are.

Wait, you want to compare one 1.5GHz Power4 processor or 16 1.5GHz processors?

I don't know, but I have to think that's a hard comparison to make considering they use completely different architectures.

My wild guess is that the cheapest 2800+ A64 would absolutely stomp a single 1.5GHz Power4, but that it would take a X2 4800 or so to match 16 of them.

I want to compare 1 on 1, but was just saying that we have a 16 processor server, and was trying to understand how powerful that really is.

I goofled for benchmarks, and I can't find squat ! still looking through the results, but so far nothing even as simple as mips or anything. An one place compares to Itanium, but I don;t even know how that compares.

last time I checked Clock for clock A64 > then Power4 . So ~ 1.3 Ghz is all you need which i dont think they make so go with 1.8Ghz model and you should have a very nice upgrade. Itanium is fast but all code must be complied for the CPU as all branch prediction done by the complier. It also costs way more then the other two solution and is not normally used in such a low number such as 16.

Everything is code specific. Using optimized (or I should say native code for the Power4), it should be equivalent of a 2Ghz A64.
