What speed A64 cpu is the appropriate match for a 7600GS?

Just wondering what speed Athlon64 cpu is the appropriate speed match for a passively cooled eVGA 7600GS (MSI mATX mobo).

Is a 3200+ Venice the appropriate match?

there is no 'appropriate' match, 3200 should be fine? i'd match it with the 3800x2 or 3700

imo a good match would be, gpu price = cpu price or close enough

How significant and perceptible is the difference between a single core 3200+ Venice and a dual core 3800 x 2, both for gaming and general purpose computing?

For gaming the difference is not too large if any all. For general usage, the X2 would be significantly faster.

Yeah, the x2 will make the computer feel much smoother.

The 3200+ would be fine, but I would consider going all the way and getting the 3800+ single core if you are going that way. That's a good processor

Actually, I would aim for the 3500+. Games don't seem to respond to much more than a 2.2 ghz AMD64 in my experience, unless you have an awesome processor. 2.0 ghz seems just a little slow for games like FEAR and Far Cry.

Depends on the game, obviously, but the bottleneck would be the video card and not the processor. It's always going to be something
