I got some old computer parts lying around and im thinking of making a rig to play cs on so i dont have to lug it around to events. Anyone know what they would need to run it? Im looking for processor, memory and vid requirements. Thanks!

P2 450mhz, 128-256mb (win98/win2k, 512 if you're gonna use winxp), gf2.

I had an old gf2 gts (32mb) that ran CS @ 90+ fps all the time, albeit it was running on a P3 (Slot1) 800mhz w/256mb on Win2k Pro.

What spare parts do you have lying around?

The new 1.6 makes that spec out dated. It plays choppy on most computer that was using P4 2.0GHz with ATI 8500 specs to a P4 2.0GHz with Ti 4200.

Really lags like crazy now.. almost everyone is complaining

I dont play 1.6, as I hate steam. I've had nothing but problems with it. I won't even begin to say what, it angers me too much. I try not to think about it. FPN (the gaming network I'm admin on) is aggravated at steam as well, and we're cutting down on most of 1.6 servers, and only offering 1 CS 1.6 server once WON.net goes down. We're fed up. But I'm ranting....

Soooo...yes, you would probably need a more powerful machine if you're planning on playing CS 1.6. If you want my opinion, ditch CS. It's dead. BF1942/RTCW:ET/AA is what's in.

(here comes cheap promo)
If you want a nice place to play online games, www.fastping.net. Expect our servers to be up within the next few weeks. We're working on a BF1942 server, and possibly America's Army. There is a public RTCW:ET server up, with a Q3 server coming very soon (had a few problems with the server its running on, nothing extreme. expect it up VERY soon)

i run at 1600 sometimes, but if hes gonna be using this as a lan computer chances are he wont be bringing a 21inch monitor around with him.

If you keep your resolution down, select 16 bit color vice 32, and make smoke effects low quality you can get by with less, like Shady. I'd be surprised if that P3-500 runs smoothly, though...

yea you can go pretty low if you run low res. go to csrealism.com and download the higher res/high poly models packs and it spiffies it up quite a bit, it also ups the requirements. 4x fsaa and aniscopic filtering would be nice options to force on through driver settings., but doubtful possible with old parts.
