What sound card will let me record digitally with a MD player?

look for a soundcard with a C-media CMI8378 chipset, like the Zoltrix Nightingale. The 8378 supports digital out and the Zoltrix card has an optical daughtercard available that's cheap. i paid 12 bucks for the Nightingale card, and 11 for the optical upgrade for my dad's machine. 23 dollars for digital optical I/O. not bad.

btw, in my own system i'm running an MX300 (vortex2 card) with a homemade optical connector and it's working perfectly, so don't rule out a vortex2 card.. well.. for win98 at least. with win2k you'll lose a3d

I believe the New Hercules Fortissimo 2 had Optical connections which you can use for your MD.Best part is that the chipset is the same one used in the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which is a really good card I have one and love it.I might pick up the Hercules though since I have an MD myself and would love to record digital instead of analog.

Yes the Zoltrix is cheap - if you have a soundcard already u could check for an "optical" daughter card for it - there are cards available for the Live series also.

I'd say go with the sb live with daughterboard. But on a side note, what are your reasons for wanting to use digital out? There really isnt any noticible gain in sound quality, its just a lot easier for making track splits and getting the loudest sound possible.

yeah i have the hoontech II sblive addon its got optical in/out. im gonna get rid of it and buy a hercules game theathre xp

Hercules Game Theater XP definitely supports this process. Works well too! Not a bad price for what you get....
