Legos....before all of these new fangled branded ones came out. Ran around the neighborhood a lot, biked and played with neighborhood kids

ride bikes and play baseball, football, soccer, anything outside

I was also into Transformers, GIJoe, and legos

Very helpful, I'll have to put in a req for some of those. Transformers, GI Joes, and legos could all be extremely useful in play therapy. Thanks! 🙂

Yes, Legos FTW. Lots of Legos. Get those engineering skills going as soon as possible.

Legos were the greatest thing. They're amazing.

for me, it was probably legos and action figures, like gi-joe. played a lot outside and in the woods. i live in a rural area.
i don't remember if i had a NES yet at that point or not, doubt it. when i was 8 it was 1988.

When I was 8, I liked showing my pee-pee to little girls and getting away with it. A hobby I practice to this day.

WWYBYWB? or did osmeone ask you that already?

Lets see at 8, 9 i would have been in 1-3 grade maybe. First grade, all i can remember is playing with my ninja turtles in the bushes, and digging holes in my back yard one time i found a behive and i knocked it down by hitting it with rocks.
Second Grade, I built my tree house, it is still sort of there to this day (im 23 now). I also started to like playing tether ball and soccer and pushing girls into the mud. Third grade, I was much more heavy into soccer and maybe pogs and pushing girls into the mud.

I grew up with three younger sisters, and have not had much experience with 8-year-old boys.

I'll be digging into my developmental books for information, but in the meantime I figured that ATOT might be a valuable resource of former 8-year-old boys. 🙂 With that, what sorts of things do 8/9-year-old boys enjoy doing/playing with/talking about? Games, toys, etc.?

Looking for a new boyfriend?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. 😉

I'll let you know in 4 years when my son turns 8. I'd say video games would be high on the list though.

Mine could power up thier PC and load a Reader Rabbit CD at three and three and a half years old.

Mine is surfing the internet at 4 years old...mostly Disney.com at this point. They have a lot of games on there and he is getting quite good at them too which is scary.

thats about the time I took apart every toy I had. Amiga 500 with tonnes of computer games. Mecanno (I believe erector sets are the equivalent here). In other words now is a good time to encourage what could end up being life long hobbies. I was kinda shortchanged on the availabilty of tv but I still managed to become a TMNT fanboy along with transformers. I probably would have spent a lot more time with sports if I didn't completely suck at them.

Oh no, not YA8YOBT...

Legos. Also, a great thing to do would be to go to a hobby store and purchase a model rocket ($15, maybe...) build it together, let him paint it...then launch that puppy. Get one with a parachute, if you can. And make sure it uses some big rockets, not the little sissy kind.

play with some toys, go out, learn new games like freesbee, sports, draw, whatever. You can just teach them some stuff too, don't underestimate kids, even at this age they can be smart and like to be intellectually stimulated (I'm not talking about really complex stuff tho). At least thats what I remember, I'm 20 yr old atm 🙂

I'm 20 too, I can't remember much before Gran Turismo, and that was 1998 😕

8 year old boys nowadays, that'll be internet piracy and porn FTW 🙂

wow, you have a sucky memory 🙂 I remember me when I was like 5 yrs old I went to the mall with my mom.. At 6 yrs old I remember learning to read and going to prekindergarden, playing with kids, I remember my teeth falling out, getting needleshots. I remember a New Year of 1993 celebration too.. I remember learning to eat with spoon right in kindergarden. All of that was in Ukraine tho, then @ 7 I moved to a Russian villiage and there were big Tractors and Combines, horses, etc..
