What sort of yahoos does Google hire to drive their streetview cars?

Google driver playing chicken with pregnant woman in crosswalk.

Clearly not a NYC driver. Must have brought this cowboy in from the burbs.

I was wondering if she was jay walking but if you look at it you can see she had right of way. Yeah, the driver screwed up on this one.

Let's see the light. Looks like there's another car just passed the crosswalk as well, that almost tells me that the pregger doesn't have the right to enter that crosswalk.

NVM, looked at the full picture, yeah the pregger has the right of way.

Regardless of when the light actually turned green, she was halfway across the crosswalk, and the Googlecar tried cutting her off in the wrong lane. Look at where his car is. He's in the crosswalk on the other side of the road. NYC law says if anyone is in the crosswalk, you must wait until they are on the sidewalk, period. Common sense would say you don't try to beat a pregnant woman by cutting her off in a crosswalk via driving on the wrong side of the road.

Beat by your ninja NVM edit.

Google cars don't need a stinking driver

New Google cars will need no driver
Tue, May 8, 2012 - KVUE-TV Austin 0:27 | 524 views

Nevada is the first state to approve a license for "autonomous vehicles": cars that drive without a driver. The license was issued Monday to Google. The automated cars use video cameras, radio sensors and a laser range finder to see other traffic, as well as detailed maps, to navigate the road ahead. There is no driver needed, though one is typically in the front seat ready to take control if need be.

hmm if you spin the camera around it looks like they have a red light. maybe stoped in the middle of the crosswalk?

ohh looks as if they blew the light and swerved to avoid her. you can see the bicyle rider changing positions. if you continue on you see her across the road and teh google car back on the right side.

Looks like the Google van was making a left turn in front of the woman.

No matter what the law is I still wouldn't have much sympathy if she was cut off while she was jay walking.

I've been driving on multi-lane roads way too often where people will just waltz out into oncoming traffic, expecting everyone to stop. My favorite is when they do it 20 feet from a cross walk in the dark while wearing black.

Who cares? Its NYC, cars and people cut each other off all the time, pregnant, old, doesn't matter.

First of all, WTF kind of red light is that when you look to the right of the lady 90-degrees?! It's turned so you can't even see it. Second, after tens or hundreds of thousands of miles driven, there are bound to be a few mishaps.

And then they gave it a standard round green light instead of arrows!
I bet an opposing car was making a right on red when the Google car realized he couldn't keep going and had to turn left.

Edit: Nope. This thing makes a pretty good driving DVR. Dude just turned into the lane going the wrong way.

imho right of way for pedestrians is stupid

out in rural areas pedestrians have no right of way and thats the way it should be. car coming, you get off the road.

Out in rural areas cars only pass a couple times a day, so pedestrians have all the time in the world to cross.

If cars always had the right of way in urban areas, it would be even MORE impossible to get anywhere on foot, because there would ALWAYS be another car in the way.

It takes a special kind of naivete to believe that what works "out in rural areas" will work everywhere. Let me guess...libertarian?
